AI-generated images of women are becoming increasingly more advanced and lifelike. So much so that one Twitter user believes they are not far off from making the adult film industry obsolete.
A tweet, featuring four images of AI-generated women wearing either underwear or tiny bikinis, has sparked serious debate online. The conflict appears to be mainly between those who believe AI technology is becoming so realistic that soon there will be no need for real-life humans in adult industries, and those who disagree.
The result has been the creation of a new meme known as “It’s So over.” Let’s explore the original AI-generated women tweet and the reaction it provoked on Twitter.
Twitter user posts photos of AI-generated women
It all began with a post by a Twitter user called @heartereum on Friday, January 2, 2023. Along with four images, the tweet was captioned: “It is So over.” At the time of writing, the tweet has 16.4k likes and 25.4 million views.
Replying to a tweet that asked whether the photos were fake, @heartereum confirmed that they were. “I mean the machine learning digested gigabytes of real pics of real girls, but these images are 100% computer generated,” they said.
The caption “It is So over,” seems to suggest that due to the likeness of the AI-generated women to a real-life woman, that AI will soon take over.
Netizens oppose the AI-generated women
Some netizens strongly disagree with the tweet’s suggestion, believing that the AI-generated women are not so realistic looking, and also that the notion of computers replacing the function of a human being is obviously farfetched.
In the comments section, one user pointed out that “the fingers are usually the easiest [way] tell”if an image is real or fake, and in one of the images, highlighted in the tweet below, the fingers certainly do seem to be a giveaway.
In response to one comment that claimed AI-generated women may sway men away from dating real women, a Twitter user quipped back: “Having a computer gf is so cool and not seriously pathetic.”
The ‘It’s So over’ meme is born
As well as the serious debate taking place around @heartereum’s tweet, and the future impact of AI on our society, some hilarious memes have surfaced.
While to some AI art is impressive and very advanced, there is still a way to go until most AI software is able to come anywhere near successfully replicating a real person. This is the premise that the memes are based on.
Here are some of the best “It’s So over” memes so far:
weird nerds be like “it is SO over for women. AI has become capable of creating images nearly indistinguishable from reality. human women have become obsolete in the dating marketplace”
