A tweet claiming BYU, Brigham Young University, had an “armpit crabs outbreak” is going viral and the internet is in disbelief.

Social media has erupted after a Twitter user alleged on Saturday (October 22, 2022) that an “armpit crabs” epidemic swept through Brigham Young University (BYU).

The institution has not addressed the rumor, so the internet is going wild with their meme responses of shock.

Viral tweet kicks up BYU’s unconfirmed “armpit crabs” rumor

A user named Gumbo Crab unexpectedly shook things up on the internet with a tweet reading: “There was an outbreak of armpit crabs at BYU. Sit with me for a moment, and think about how that happened. Have a good day y’all.”

First of all, we didn’t even know armpit crabs were a condition but, according to the NHS, it is possible to have crabs on areas of the body that have hair, except the head.

“Reminds me of that family guy episode,” they continued in the Twitter thread. The user is likely referencing the 2006 episode, Prick Up Your Ears, which joked that students at James Woods High were participating in ear sex.

The internet is hoping that the bizarre comment isn’t true. “PLEASE say sike,” one replied.

“Please don’t give them kids any more ideas,” another laughed.

A third is more concerned with how the practice even came to be: “PLEASE tell me this is a joke? I didn’t know this was a thing and now I hope it’s a joke. If it isn’t a joke I’m curious as to how it happened but likely don’t want an answer. HOW do you get armpit crabs?!?!?!”

If you know how humans normally end up with crabs, then you can probably work out how armpit crabs work.

The Provo, Utah university is named after its founder and religious leader Brigham Young. Young was the second president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) and the institution is still sponsored by the Mormon church to this day.

BYU students are required to follow the school’s honor code, which includes “living a chaste and virtuous life, including abstaining from any sexual relations outside a marriage between a man and a woman.”

Despite regulations, students have been captured showing PDA on campus through the defunct Instagram page BYUpda. The page exclusively posted images of students engaged in contact, whether it be kissing or holding hands, without their knowledge.

The account raised issues as the subjects did not give consent, reports Salt Lake City Weekly.

Certified sex therapist Kristin Hodson also told the news outletin 2019 that “armpit sex was in vogue for BYU students,” and they were the “most creative” at forming alternative methods for intimate contact.
