Arpita Kabir Mumu, the daughter of researcher Shahriar Kabir and president of the Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee of 1971, was found dead by the police. Her body was discovered hanging in a residence within the Banani police station area of the capital on Thursday, June 8.
On Friday, June 9, Banani Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mostafizur Rahman informed the media about the incident. He stated that the lifeless body of Arpita Shahriar Kabir Mumu was found hanging in a Banani residence on Thursday.
The body was later returned to the family, and the initial belief is that Arpita Kabir took her own life. However, the reason behind her decision remains unknown, and the matter is currently under investigation.
According to Deputy Commissioner Md Shahidullah of the DMP’s Gulshan Division, the 41-year-old daughter of Shahriar Kabir, president of the Ekattorer Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee, was found dead in an apparent suicide at her home in Mohakhali, the capital, on Thursday. It is believed that she hanged herself using a rope tied to a bathroom window. The body was handed over to the family on Thursday night. The police have not provided any information regarding the cause of the suicide, and the family has not made any statements on the matter.
A suicide note was discovered at Shahriar Kabir’s residence, the president of the Ekattorer Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee, following the recovery of his daughter Arpita Kabir Mumu’s lifeless body. The body of Arpita was found hanging from a rope tied to a bathroom window in their Banani apartment in the capital on Thursday night.
Officer-in-charge of Banani Police Station, Mostafizur Rahman, stated that the family did not file a complaint. Arpita had been living and studying in the United Kingdom but returned to Dhaka before the Covid outbreak after her mother’s demise. She had been staying with her father since then.
