BRIT tourists were trapped in holiday hell after flooding hit their luxury 5-star resort in the Dominican Republic.

Heavy rain left hundreds of British holidaymakers stranded yesterday at the Thomson Sensatori in Punta Cana.

Guests described how dirty water surged through the Caribbean holiday spot overnight and the electricity failed.

Staff desperately tried to stop water getting into rooms by using towels.

Pictures also showed how roofing had partially collapsed at the resort, which was opened in July 2016.

Banker Andrew Abbotsford-Smith, 43, from Kent, said: “It’s total chaos – there is only one rep dealing with 500 British tourists.

“It’s a real disaster for all of us but especially the guests who are here for their honeymoon or to celebrate their anniversary.

“You can smell sewer and people are now worried about getting cholera.”

The TUI Sensatori boasts “a beautiful white sand beach, designer interiors and a gourmet dining scene”.

Last week 17,000 were evacuated from their homes in the Dominican republic after “staggering” amounts of rainfall.

In neighbouring Haiti a 19-year-old and an elderly man died due to flash floods.

Forecasters said it was all part of a severe weather system that also hit Jamaica.
