Ernest Alfred Rogers, an 82-year-old Rome, Georgia resident and U.S. Army Captain (Ret.), passed away at home on Tuesday, January 2, 2024.

The late Ernest Edward Rogers and the late Mamie Lee Hunter Rogers were the parents of Captain Rogers, who was born in Rome, Georgia on October 15, 1941. Wesley Earl Rogers, his brother, also passed away before him. After serving in Korea, Germany, and Vietnam for more than 22 years, Captain Rogers retired from the US Army. After a brief stint in sales and his military duty, he started working at Virginia International Terminals in Norfolk, Virginia, from where he retired as Maintenance Supervisor. He currently belongs to the Eagle Wings Road Riders Association, having formerly belonged to the Gold Wing Road Riders Association. Captain Rogers was a Christian and a master handyman.

He was married to Peggy Ann Perkins on June 18, 1988. Among his survivors are his wife, who was previously known as Amy Ambrose (Ray) of Richmond, Virginia, and Michelle Rogers of Chesapeake, Virginia; three sons, Ernie Rogers (Rachel), Jody Rogers, and Mark Rogers, all of Chesapeake, Virginia; a sister, Faye Griffith of Richmond, Virginia; five grandchildren, Carter, McKenzie, Taylor, Alexis, and Sam; and nieces and nephews.

On Sunday, January 7, 2024, from 2 to 4 p.m., the family will welcome friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, Oaknoll Chapel.

Albert G. Horton Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk, Virginia will serve as the burial site following services in Portsmouth, Virginia. Once they are finalized, those arrangements will be made public.
