It’s not every day that a development team, and especially a publisher, create a jokey glitch video for millions of adoring fans to gawk and laugh at. The creators of this year’s critically and commercially successful God of War did just that by uploading a video to PlayStation’s YouTube channel cheekily titled “God of War — Midgard Mishaps”.
The video’s explanation reads: “What happens in Midgard, stays in Midgard. Making a video game is difficult. Making a stable game that both pushes the capabilities of the hardware and creates a super immersive, no-camera-cut, epically-sized AAA gaming experience like the one seen in the new God of War, is vastly more difficult. This massive task, involving hundreds of people developing and implementing content simultaneously, which can often have a tendency to break things, definitely added to the challenge.”
The video proceeds to give us hilarious insight into what can go wrong during the development process. We see creepy contorted faces from Atreus, wonky combat, and even Kratos falling through the sky calling out “Atreus, to me!” over and over. You can witness the developer’s crazy antics for yourself here:
God of War was released this year to high acclaim from both critics and gamers alike and was just recently revealed to be the second best-selling game of 2018. It finished just in front of fellow PS4 exclusive Spider-Man, and right behind Far Cry 5, which sits at a comfortable first place. Far Cry 5 shouldn’t sit too comfy, however, as Call of Duty: Black Ops IIII was just released and should take its designated spot on the first place throne come end of the year. That is, unless Red Dead Redemption II says otherwise.
