Warrick Giddey is an Australian basketball coach who is 54 years old. He used to play professionally and is now the head coach of the Melbourne Tigers women’s team in NBL1 South.
Senior Giddey played in 449 games in the National Basketball League for both the Melbourne Tigers and the Illawarra Hawks (NBL). When Giddey played for the Tigers in 1993 and 1997, they won two NBL titles.

Early years and work
Giddey grew up in Yarraville and went to St. Kevin’s College in Melbourne from 7th to 10th grade. He then became one of Australia’s best basketball prospects at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) in Canberra, where the NBA Global Academy is based. Along with training full-time at the AIS, he went to UC Senior Secondary College Lake Ginninderra.
In April 2019, Giddey led VIC Metro to win the Australian Under-18 Championships. He averaged 20 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 6 assists per game.

Work as a professional
Giddey signed with the Adelaide 36ers of the National Basketball League (NBL) on March 12, 2020. He was the first Australian player to join the NBL’s Next Stars program, which helps NBA draft prospects get ready for the NBA. Giddey turned down offers from Arizona and other NCAA Division I schools.
In a 93–77 loss to the New Zealand Breakers on April 26, 2021, he had 12 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists. This made him the youngest Australian in NBL history to get a triple double. In the 36ers’ next game on May 1, against the Brisbane Bullets, he became the first Australian ever to get a triple-double in two straight games. He finished with 15 points, 13 assists, and 11 rebounds as the 36ers beat the Brisbane Bullets 101–79. In a 97–88 overtime win over the Sydney Kings on May 9, he got his third triple-double with 11 points, 12 assists, and 10 rebounds. Giddey was taken off the active roster on May 17 so he could get ready for the 2021 NBA draft. In the 28 games he played this season, he averaged 10.9 points, 7.3 rebounds, and a league-leading 7.6 assists per game. He was chosen as the best rookie player in the NBL.
The Oklahoma City Thunder (2021–present)
Giddey signed up for the 2021 NBA draft on April 27, 2021. He was expected to be a lottery pick in that draft. On July 29, the Oklahoma City Thunder took him with the sixth pick in the draft. On August 8, he signed a contract with the Thunder. On the same day, he hurt his ankle five minutes into his first NBA Summer League game. As a precaution, he was taken out of the rest of the games. On October 20, Giddey’s first game in the NBA was a loss to the Utah Jazz by a score of 107–86. He had four points, 10 rebounds, and three assists in that game. Giddey got his first double-double with 18 points and 10 assists in a 123–115 win over the Los Angeles Lakers on October 27. He also became the third-youngest player to get at least 10 assists in a game, behind only LeBron James, who did it twice. Giddey was named the NBA Western Conference Rookie of the Month for games played in October and November.
Giddey became the second player in NBA history, after Norm Van Lier, to have a double-double without scoring any points. He did this on December 26, 2021, when the Thunder beat the New Orleans Pelicans 117–112. Giddey was named the NBA Western Conference Rookie of the Month for December games. On January 2, 2022, Giddey beat LaMelo Ball’s record by becoming the youngest player to ever get a triple-double. In a 95–86 loss to the Dallas Mavericks, Giddey had 17 points, 14 assists, and 13 rebounds. Giddey won the NBA Western Conference Rookie of the Month award for both January and February games. He won the award four times in a row.
Giddey was ruled out for the rest of the season on March 27 because of hip pain. By the end of the season, he had averaged 12.5 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 6.4 assists per game while shooting.
With four triple-doubles, he shot 419, 263 and 709 percent from the field, the three-point line, and the free throw line, respectively. He was also the only rookie to score at least 500 points, get at least 400 rebounds, and give at least 300 assists.
