Schmigadoon! concluded its first season on 13th August 2021 and fans are wondering if they will be able to see more of Josh and Melissa in the hit musical comedy’s Season 2.
Schmigadoon! is a series inspired by the 1947 musical ‘Brigadoon’. It was created by Cinco Paul and Ken Daurio, with Barry Sonnenfeld as director. The series was first released in July 2021 and has been a huge hit since.
The series followed the story of a couple named Melissa and Josh who go on a trip in an attempt to rekindle their relationship only to get lost on the way and stumble into a magical town. The only way they can leave this town is to find true love. Please note: This article contains spoilers!

Schmigadoon! Season 2: Renewal and release date
At the time of writing this article Schmigadoon! has not yet been renewed for Season 2. However, due to both high reviews and a statement made by actor Jaime Camil, HITC does believe the series will return.
Jaime Camil is most recognised for his work in ‘Jane the Virgin’ (2014-2019). In the series, he plays Doc Jorge Lopez. In a recent interview with TV Fanatic, he talks about this recent role and says “Ah, have you talked to Cinco Paul? You should. Because he has some great ideas, but I cannot elaborate on them because he’ll probably kill me, and I don’t want to die, and also I want to be in Season 2”.
This implies that Season 2 could already be in the works but for now everyone remains tight-lipped about it.
As it stands, the series sits at 7.4/10 on IMDB, 88% on Rotten Tomatoes and 4.6 on Google reviews. The high ratings and ambiguous ending for Season 1 could nicely set up for a second season. We expect a statement to be issued by creators in the coming weeks, regarding the series status.
Should the series renew, we can expect that it will release in the summer of 2022 as this would allow for a year between seasons. For now, fans can recap with the Season 1 trailer below:

Plot and cast for Season 2

In Schmigadoon! In episode 6 titled ‘How We Change’, fans watched on as Josh and Melissa reunite and hold hands together as they cross the bridge but before fans see if they make it home or if they circle back, it ends. So, with the series left on somewhat of a cliffhanger, fans can assume that the couples’ story will continue on into Season 3.
Should the couple return to the magical town, we expect that they may realise they just are not meant for each other and possibly try to leave with other people or that their work on their relationship is not yet done.
Alternatively, we may see another couple get sucked into the Golden Age-style musical as they also attempt to repair their relationship, should this be the case we can expect all of the townsfolk to return with the exception of Keegan-Michael Key as Josh Skinner and Cecily Strong as Melissa Gimble, depending on how the story plays out.
