The Very Fairy Princess by Julie Andrews Edwards
While her friends and family may not believe in fairies, Geraldine knows, deep down, that she is a VERY fairy princess. From morning to night, Gerry does everything that fairy princesses do: she dresses in her royal attire, practices her flying skills, and she is always on the lookout for problems to solve. But it isnt all twirls and tiaras – as every fairy princess knows, dirty fingernails and scabby knees are just the price you pay for a perfect day!
This new picture book addition to the Julie Andrews Collection features the joyful illustrations of Christine Davenier, and is sure to inspire that sparkly feeling within the hearts of readers young and old.
My Job Is to Dress Like a Princess and It’s as Magical as It Sounds
But you know what? As I wore a vintage 70s gown last year that drew a ton of admiration, I knew I had to up the ante this year and to be honest I was really feeling the pressure. I ordered top after top after top Nothing seemed quite right and was beginning to despair when this long-sleeved, crystal crop top in one remaining size popped up on ASOS: I think it must have completely sold out over Christmas and then this single one was returned and back in stock.

All girls want to dress like fairies, and after princesses, fairies are probably the most popular fancy dress outfit amongst females of all ages.
In popular literature and the arts, fairies have appeared in cartoons such as Peter Pan, and movies such as Hook and Moulin Rouge. These fairies form the popular conceptions of these fantastical creatures, so imitating them will ensure that you aren’t humiliated through people asking you what or who you are dressed as.
1. Wear Little Wings – all fairies have wings, often of the translucent variety. In order to be practical, they should stick out backwards, rather than to the side. To give a further impression of a fairy’s small size, the wings should imitate insect wings rather than bird wings.
2. Brighten Up Your Skin – fairies are associated with bright happy things. So shimmer powder and/or glitter on your cheeks and eyelids can help to give you a bright sparkly complexion.
3. Wear A Little Dress – fairies are often depicted in small girly dresses. Be careful to choose a colour that matches your complexion. Don’t wear a yellow dress if you have a pale skin as it will make you look a little washed out. Also, many depicted fairy dresses have jagged hems which imitate flowers. Creating this effect can be easily done with a pair of scissors.
Also try to choose a colour that matches the season. Bright colours go well in the summer, pastels in the spring, deep reds and oranges in autum, and white in the winter.
4. Use makeup to perfect your face – fairies should look otherworldly, and not quite human. For example, you could make your eyes stand out with black eyeliner. Makeup can be applied to exaggerate your natural skin tone, perhaps making it slightly unnaturally peach colour or pink-bluish. Think of flowers when you do your makeup.
5. Act the part – You can improve your appearance as a fairy by looking the part. Try looking dreamy and mysterious. Smiling at people will charm them, and tilting your head can add to this effect.
Fairies are part of nature, and therefore protect it. You should therefore act in an environmentally friendly way, and if people are arguing about environmental issues, then you should always side with the pro-nature side of the debate.
6. Walk in a delicate way – remember that fairies are small, delicate beings that float on the wind. So you should
7. Wear flat shoes – Fairies are small creatures, so you should accentuate your short stature by wearing flat shoes, plimsolls or strappy sandals.
So, I’m 13 and I’ve always liked fairies. And yes, I’ve watched the Tinkerbell movies. Everyone at my school dresses the same and it bugs me. I want to have my own unique sense of style. I want to learn how to act, dress, and look like a fairy. Can you help?
Make up: products, brands
Clothes: stores, what type of clothing
Shoes: what kind, brand
You get the picture.
By the way, I’ve already read all the articles on wikihow on how to be like a fairy; didn’t help much.
A brief description of me:
Dark brown hair with natural red highlights & dark brown eyes
Average height for my age
Oval shaped face

Wear winkle picker style shoes, pixie boots and pixie dresses, although faeys suck and pixies really are better. You could get some hair falls, maybe in pinks or greens, it’s a better idea to make the clothes yourself than to buy them.
A fairy style skirt is: getting a normal shortish skirt, tie/sew random bits of fabric all around the waist of it = instant pixie/fairy skirt.
Also have a look at Gobbolino clothes on the net.
I’m a big sci/fi fantasy fan and in most of the books I read faeries are very easy to offend. They like to play games and play tricks and are downright evil to humans sometimes because they believe they are our superiors. Fairies think of humans the way humans think of animals. If you accidentally offend a fairy they will hold a grudge and get even with you times 10.
Besides that they are also very beautiful with delicate features. I think that and the fact they like to get into mischief is the only thing about them that Disney has empathized.
some human beings bypass into “fairy worlds” by using making use of twist of destiny, like Alice in Wonderland or Dorothy indoors the Wizard of oz. or the youngsters indoors the Lion, the Witch, and the cloth wardrobe. some bypass to have relaxing, like the Darling infants in Peter Pan. i think of of you’re searching for a definite reason, like a therapy for many cancers or a pot of gold or a definite dream or request. think of of of something you relatively choose on your life, or something you’re afraid will take place. think of your character went into the fairy worldwide for that reason?
wear a light pink colour goun with feathers and makeup wise put marble white foundation dat will help your skin tone look fair. shoes wear boots kinda heels of white color thats it babes your done.
When is it appropriate to wear a fairy costume? Let’s see . . . there’s at a Disney movie premiere, or when watching Peter Pan or Tinker Bell at home. Girls’ Fairy Accessories
All of our fairy costumes for kids include fairy or angel wings, but you’ll definitely want to add some accessories! These costumes look great with Tinker Bell wands and classy gloves. If your kid won’t put up with a wig, consider some purple hair spray that comes out after a shampoo or two. Then there’s ballet shoes, which come in bright, sparkly colors or flat black.
Women’s Fairy Costumes
Now let’s look at fairy costumes for adults. Like with kids, there are Renaissance fairy costumes in purple and green plus designs based on Tinker Bell. There are also sexy fairy costumes and Fairy Godmother costumes with a range of coverage. All of these costumes include wings, but you’ll definitely want to add accessories to complete your look.

When I was in high school I went through a very, very short-lived stage where I found it incredibly thrilling and rebellious to wear a shirt that bared my midriff.
My best friend and I went out one night to a concert and I wore said scandalous top and felt so powerful as guy after guy took note of my belly button.
They probably also took note of the fact that I was the color of paste, had fifteen hundred pimples under my hair-sprayed bangs, and wore high-heeled sneakers that made me stumble every few steps and quickly gunned it in the other direction.
Regardless, it is no secret that God has made women to be lovely and beautiful creatures – even if some of us struggle with our weight, backne, and untamable hair
It’s also no secret that men like the way women look and can often struggle in a situation if a woman is anywhere within a 2 mile radius wearing something that exposes a lot of cleavage or thigh or earloabs.
Because my husband says if I wore a potato sack he would STILL be tempted to wonder what I might be wearing under that potato sack.
But while we are not responsible for what a man does in his heart after he has seen something attractive, we are responsible for finding ways to dress that please the Lord.
And when we love the Lord in that way, we love our precious brothers and help them not have to work so dang hard to look away.
It’s super important for you to know that I am not advising y’all to drop your closet of clothes at the nearest thrift store and go buy nun outfits. Christian women can still look adorable and fashionable. Thanks to my mom, I think I look pretty good most of the time.
And before you go thinking I’m somewhat of a prude, you must know that I like to make sure that I save all my scandalous clothes for behind the closed doors of my home with my beloved (wink).
But when I am getting dressed to go to work or church or the supermarket, I usually try to assess the appropriateness of an outfit by asking myself a few questions.
1. Is it too tight?
If you can see the outline of your hoo-ha in it – it’s too tight. The end.
2. Is it too short?
We had an event at our church recently and I complimented a girl on her cute black leggings and she said, “Thanks! When I got into this skirt I realized it was too short so I threw these on.”
Bless her. I could have hugged her for taking the extra time and enduring another layer of clothing in South Florida heat for choosing to dress appropriately.
What a great trick. Short dress or skirt? Leggings. Boom.
I’ve always followed this tip myself because my knees look like they belong to a 90 year old woman. I’m doing EVERYONE a favor by not bringing them out.
But I encourage you not to mistake leggings as a suitable pair of pants. Unless your shirt is long enough to cover your bum, this is generally not a good idea (refer to tip #1).
A few weeks ago I decided that I wanted to lure my husband into bed by squeezing into a super tight pair of leggings. I fed our children, put them to bed and then walked out to the living room and in front of the television where he was sure to see me.
I did my best impression of a sexy purring kitten and bent over to, “Oops!” pick something up and at that point I thought I would have drawn him in hook, line, and sinker, but instead he let out a horrific cry and said, “WHAT IS ALL OVER YOUR BOTTOM?!”
Turns out I had fed our children peanut butter for dinner and had somewhere along the way sat in it.
3. Is it see through?
I always thought of slips as something old ladies wore.
But, I’ve trained myself to think about it because sometimes that cute maxi skirt can reveal a sexy silhouette of curves when hit with the right amount of back light (something I am especially conscious of because I sing on the worship team every week at church where back lighting abounds).
Not to mention if you’re shopping for clothes at places like Wal-Mart (that would be me) then you know the quality/thickness of fabric is not going to be something that Ralph Lauren would be proud of.
Repeat after me – slips are your friend.
And so are camis. There have been plenty of shirts that I have put on only to find that you can see my undergarments through and through. Camis take care of this in a snap. I like these ones from Gap.
4. Will it distract?
I was recently lamenting with some friends about the time in high school when I was about to sing a solo in our Sunday morning church service and some well-meaning deacon thought it was a good idea to drop the air conditioning down to 62 at about the same time I was walking on stage.
At least that’s what it felt like to me and my nips.
Yes, you heard me. This was the last time I was EVER caught walking around without a padded bra.
I highly doubt anyone was able to enter into worship with all the activity going on under my shirt.
5. What are my motives with this outfit?
Romans 13:14 says, “ But be like the Lord Jesus Christ, so that when people see what you do, they will see Christ. Don’t think about how to satisfy the desires of your sinful self.”
Often when I am getting dressed to go somewhere I can sense in my spirit the difference between whether I am wearing an outfit because my ‘sinful self’ wants to get noticed or if my heart is full of simply wanting people to see Christ in me (instead of my hot bod).
Which, I humbly admit, is somewhat stretched out and sagging these days.
But that is neither here nor there.
The point is, if you love Jesus, then you will want to honor Him in EVERY area of your life. Including how you dress.
Because really the best way to look awesome is letting His light and love spill out of you instead of your boobs. 🙂
“ It is not fancy hair, gold jewelry, or fine clothes that should make you beautiful. No, your beauty should come from inside you—the beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit. That beauty will never disappear. It is worth very much to God.”
1 Peter 3:3-4 (ERV)
**P.S. If you are a nun and reading this, I understand that these days you wear super comfortable and conservative clothing much like I am encouraging us all to do in this post. When I wrote the title for this post, I was thinking along the lines of Sister Act. Thank you for setting such a great example for us! Xoxo**

From the Bride’s Pink Dress to the Bright Blue Lake, This Couple’s Banff Elopement Is Like a Fairy Tale
Isis and Nick met through mutual friends and bonded over their love for music. The pair also love to travel, and a few years into their relationship, they took a trip to Tasmania – an island just off the coast of Australia. They hiked to the Marions Lookout point, a spot with a panoramic view of Dove Lake surrounded by glorious mountains, and were having a small picnic together when Nick proposed. Isis was completely taken by surprise, but of course, she accepted his proposal!
The couple never considered having a traditional wedding, and given the adventurous nature of their proposal, it makes sense that their wedding was just as exciting. After seeing photos of a friend’s trip to Moraine Lake in Alberta, Canada, they knew that was the spot for their ceremony. Isis also did not want a traditional wedding dress, so she had a baby pink gown made and paired it with Converse sneakers. After planning their nuptials, they embarked on the greatest adventure of their lives and headed off to Canada.
“It was so surreal standing at that lake the morning of our wedding, taking it all in and realizing we made it!” Isis said. “Before we left for Canada, we had a sign made that read, ‘We Eloped – Moraine Lake, Canada, 13th August 2019.’ This date is my G’ma’s birthday, and although she is no longer with us, I wanted her to be part of our special day.” They put so much thought into their wedding, and it was absolutely breathtaking. The couple hired photographer Elizabeth van der Bij to capture their big day, so keep reading to see the photos of Isis and Nick’s elopement in the mountains.

T he Grammys this year were PRETTY eventful. From Lizzo welcoming you to the Grammys to Billie Eilish bagging up four lead categories. The Jonas Brothers also gave an exciting performance, debuting their song, ‘What A Man Gotta Do’ for the first time. Alicia Keys showed off some fire Grammys riffs. And Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani delivered a duet that wasn’t as well-received as they had hoped. And then came Ariana Grande.
Ariana Grande’s Cinderella Moment At The Grammys
Clad in a beautiful gown straight out of a fairy tale, Ariana Grande made all the jaws drop. People were in awe of her custom Giambattista Valli dove gray gown complete with a layered tulle skirt and matching satin opera gloves. Cinderella much?
So much performance art on this #GRAMMYs carpet. Here’s Ariana Grande sitting in a puddle of tulle.

EXACTLY ARIANA. I KNEW WE WERE GONNA GET SERVED BUT I DIDNT KNOW IT WOULD BE AN EIGHT COURSE MEAL . @ArianaGrande #grammys
— leanne held mikeys hand (@Ilnventedyou) January 26, 2020
But the dress wasn’t the only exciting bit for Arianators. Ariana Grande also won her fan’s hearts for her reaction to Billie Eilish winning Album Of The Year when Billie said Ariana was the more deserving one in her acceptance speech. And then Ari was seen brushing off her words and blowing her a kiss as the camera panned to her.
How To Get Ariana’s Grammys Dress
A Youtuber named Micarah Tewers took it upon herself to make an affordable version of Ariana Grande’s Grammys dress. The reason behind her making it was to tell her audience that they neither have to be rich nor a celebrity to look like… well, a rich celebrity.
So she made a replica of Ariana’s custom Giambattista Valli gown in only $40. It could be considered a lot but considering how much fabric is required to make that poofy dress, $40 is still a very good bargain.
So watch her video here to learn how to achieve Ariana Grande’s Grammys 2020 look.

One of the best parts (for moms, at least) of toddler photoshoots is planning what your child is going to wear. For our unicorn photo shoot, the process actually started with buying my daughter’s Halloween costume in this totally practical 24-step online shopping approach.
Find a super expensive but TO DIE FOR Pottery Barn Kids butterfly fairy costume. Fall in love. Pine over the color combination of glittery gold and mint tulle; the oversized and sparkly wings; the beautiful floral detailing on the front. Decide my kid definitely needs this costume in her life.
Laugh at myself for considering something so expensive.
Scour the internet for a similarly styled but cheaper version. One that I could reasonably defend should someone find out what I spent on a Halloween costume my small human will wear for a total of two hours before smearing chocolate on it.
Hit up all the usual suspects for alternatives: eBay, Target and Amazon.
Try to come up with the magic combo of search terms because so far they bring up stuff like this . Vow my kid isn’t going to look like a swap meet Peter Pan/rose/vine wench.
Fill up my cart on at least three to five different websites until midnight, totally missing out on my much-needed mom sleep but rationalizing that it’s #totallyworthit.
Don’t buy any of it.
Go to bed.
Become totally obsessed with all things fairy dress shopping for days. Talk about it and text screen shots and finely crafted collage comparisons to anyone who will listen.
Debate whether my 30lb 3-year-old could squeeze into the SO MUCH CHEAPER infant size PBK dream dress. She’s still a baby, RIGHT?
Have dinner. Drink wine.
Hide in the bathroom with my phone (and refilled wine glass) before the kids’ bedtime routine begins with my thumb hovering over the confirm order button on the original, toddler sized PBK dream dress. Must. Have. It.
Don’t buy it.
Search for PBK coupon codes instead. Disclose my email address to spammers in a desperate hope that a shady looking 30% off code is real. It’s not.
Text more people a meticulous pros and cons list.
Consider making the costume myself.
Research the DIY materials.
Remember I can’t actually sew.
Pin no-sew versions of costumes on Pinterest.
Remember I have two kids and NO time. Unpin all that crazy stuff.
Agonize some more.
Return to trusty ‘ol Amazon. My free-shipping savior. Find some awesome LED light-up butterfly wings. Decide to plan a costume around those wings instead. Find a super pretty glittery blue dress, also on Amazon, and hope it’s not one of those overseas knock-offs that look like a ballgown online but end up being a glorified plastic bag.
Buy all the things.
Receive my much-anticipated Amazon box. Open it. Rejoice! It all looks normal and super cute on my kid.
…Easy-peasy process, right? I thought so. And here are the links to my daughter’s exact costume pieces just in case you’re in the thick of your search, too. You’re welcome.

Wendy Armitage overheard the driver tell her four-year-old Isaac, ‘you can’t be a fairy, you should be a superhero’
- 11:38, 4 OCT 2016
- Updated 11:39, 4 OCT 2016
Sainsbury’s has apologised to an angry mum who blasted the supermarket giant after a delivery driver told her four-year-old son he shouldn’t be wearing a sparkly fairy dress.
Mum-of-two Wendy Armitage, 36, said her son, Isaac, was left upset by the incident and now rarely wants to dress up.
Isaac, who normally wears the fun outfit a few times a week, had been playing in a black and purple fairy outfit with his little sister when he answered the door to the driver at their home in Effingham, Surrey.
His mum said she overheard the driver tell Isaac ‘someone needs to take you to one side and have a word with you, you can’t be a fairy, you should be a superhero.’
Wendy, who also has a two-year-old daughter, Felicity, said she couldn’t believe her ears.
She said: “If he had said it’s unusual to be a fairy, we wouldn’t have have thought too much of it but saying someone should take Isaac to one side implies he was doing something wrong.
“I feel disappointed that there are still people in this world that ask questions like that and and think it is their right to tell other people what they can and cannot wear.
“My son has been more reluctant to wear his fairy dress since, he has only worn it once or twice whereas he used to wear it all the time.”
The delivery driver had gone to Wendy’s house on August 13 and she was upstairs in bed as she has a chronic pain condition which affects her mobility.
Her facilities manager husband Laurence Armitage, 35, had been in the kitchen unpacking the shopping after Isaac answered the door to the driver.
Wendy, who used to be a paediatric nurse, added: “He was wearing a fairy dress up outfit and so was his little sister and he likes answering the door when he knows the delivery driver is coming.
“I was upstairs having a bed day as I have a disability and heard the driver say to my son ‘where’s mummy?’ and Isaac said I was upstairs.
“So he asked Isaac ‘are you the doctor and your sister the nurse?’, which I thought was a bit sexist, and he said ‘why are you wearing a fairy dress?’
“Isaac said ‘because I am being a fairy’ and the driver said someone should take him to one side and have a word with him.”
Isaac first developed a love of dressing up at the age of two after coming across a big box of outfits at a parent toddler group.
As well as his fairy outfit, he also regularly dresses as Darth Vader, a doctor, nurse and vet.
Wendy said: “He first wore a fairy dress after going to a toddler group and they had a big box of dressing up outfits and they had a dress there and he liked it.
“So we got a bag of mixed dressing up clothes and he liked those dresses as well, he also likes the fireman outfit.
“He’s definitely very imaginative. He’s always playing make believe and being different characters. Even if he doesn’t have the dress up things to do it.
“When he didn’t have a magic wand he made one himself and he will often cut up bits of cardboard to make props.”

Wendy said she has since tried to explain to both of her children why the man said what he did.
But as they are so young they have been left confused by what happened and Wendy believes the family deserve an apology.
She added: “I tried to contact Sainsbury’s customer service afterwards and couldn’t get through so wrote on their Facebook page where they replied to me.
“I got a reply which said ‘sorry about that!’ and asked me to send them a message explaining what happened and they said they’ll look into it.

“We didn’t get any real apology though and I asked what is going to happen from here and they said it has been reported to the online manager at that store for them to look into it.”
She now hopes the delivery driver gets retrained so that no other child should be made to feel the same way.
Wendy added: “I have always encouraged both of my children to be what ever they want to be.
“We had to spend quite a lot of time explaining to Isaac that he can wear whatever he wants to wear and that he can be a fairy if he wants to be.
“Clothes do not define them and my children can wear whatever they would like to.”
A spokeswoman for Sainsbury’s said: “We have apologised to the customer for these inappropriate remarks and taken suitable action with the colleague.”
Fairy-kei is a fashion style that’s been around for quite some time, and isn’t a new trend by any means. It originated in the late 90’s, when fashionista and fashion entrepreneur, Sebastian Masuda, began retailing fairy oriented clothing in his Japan-based store. A simultaneously operating figure in the budding fashion trend, Sauri Tabuchi, was meanwhile running a second-hand clothing store, Spank!, that specialized in a similar type of clothing style. Together, these pioneers developed a trend that would grow exponentially over the next decade, culminating in the blossoming and unique, worldwide fashion phenomenon we see today.
Source
Fairy-kei loosely translates to “fairy-style” and is similar to the many other Lolita-inspired, Japanese street fashion trends out there in that it utilizes many kiddish and childhood inspired looks. What makes this trend its own unique style, is its emphasis on bright, pastel and fluro color schemes, and a specific interest in revivalist 80’s cartoons and symbols.
From Care Bears, to My Little Pony, and even certain elements of Japanese manga, this trend draws from a variety of cultural pools of interest. It’s incredibly versatile, extremely flexible, and very flamboyant, but more importantly — it’s cuteness level is off the scale.
Source
Pastel colored hair is a common feature to the fairy-kei fashionista, but it isn’t a necessity. Leaving hair natural, but dressing it up with a variety of cute, yet simple accessories, is very popular in the scene. Brightly colored bows are commonplace throughout the Western, as well as Asian scenes, but not nearly as much as the 80’s cartoon references people flaunt in their outfits. Tutus, bunched socks, cute crop tops, hair ribbons, and even leg warmers, are all items you can expect to find in a fairy-kei store.
You can really wear anything, just as long as it’s colorful (the emo isle is further that way, the darkness is not something that’s worshiped here, folks, only happy places), but again, more importantly, it has to be cute!
If you’re unsure as to what constitutes a fairy-kei item, it’s really quite simple: whatever’s bright, whatever’s cute, and whatever suits you. The key to this trend, like most other Japanese street-wear trends, is the unstructured and individual-based theme. You do what suits you, what you think looks good on you, and you mustn’t be afraid to customize things the way you see fit. It’s a DIY subculture as much as it is a theme-based subculture, so don’t hesitate to make something your own!
Don’t worry if you’re still unsure as to what to wear, as below we’ve developed a list of 16 fashion tips on how to dress as fairy-kei. Hopefully some of the tips help you with your clothing choices, and maybe you’ll feel inspired to get in touch with your inner fairy!
Would you like to dress up like Tinkerbell? The classic green dress and wings of Peter’s Pan’s faithful companion are a very beautiful and flattering outfit that can you take advantage of if you want to dress up as a fairy. By following a few simple tips and using some inexpensive materials you have at home, you can make a Tinkerbell costume at home. Find out how in the following OneHowTo article.
- green fabric or a green shirt
- ballet pumps
- green paint
- pompom
- wings (you may need some white cardboard)
- blue ribbon for your hair
- make-up
You can make a Tinkerbell costume with green fabric but you can also use a big t-shirt as shown in the image as well. You just need to draw the silhouette of the dress and trim the fabric accordingly. Then sew closely along the line and when you turn it over, you’ll have the top part ready. It’s as simple as that!
Another very important part of a Tinkerbell costume is the wings. If you don’t have any at home, the simplest thing is to make them with white cardboard that you can cut out and hang with white cord, or with some wire and white cloth. If possible, decorate the wings with some cotton or some other bright element to make it look better.
Regarding footwear, wearing some ballet pumps will be enough. If you have any that you no longer use, you can spray paint them green and put a white pompom on the top. If you don’t have any ballet pumps to paint, you can use the leftover fabric from the shirt to cover your shoes.
Finally, a very important part of this DIY Tinkerbell costume is the make-up and hairstyle. Try to make a top knot. If you aren’t blonde, there’s no need to buy a wig. Make a bow with a piece of blue ribbon and tie it around the knot to look just like Tinkerbell.
Regarding make-up, use very light colors for your cheeks and light or silver colors for your eye shadow, use a fair share of mascara or add some fake eyelashes to make them flicker.. Use some pink or coral blush on your cheeks to create a naive look. Paint your lips in a light pink or nude hue and your homemade Tinkerbell costume will be ready.

One of the fairies who frequents my garden studio asked me to make her a pretty party dress.

Since she has admired the painting I created that hangs over the window, I decided to make the bodice with paper made from prints of the painting.
Here is a picture of the painting.
Forever Love, Acrylic on canvas, 20″ x 24″
To make the bodice, I shrunk a print of the painting in Photoshop to a couple of different sizes (2 to 5 inches in length) and printed out a sheet of them. Then I tore the pictures into a bunch of tiny pieces of paper that I modge-podged together to form the bodice. (I used a $1 store doll covered in plastic wrap as a “pattern.”) I glued about 3-4 layers, letting then dry completely in between and then added glitter to the last layer before it dried.

To get my bodice off the doll, I simply cut it in half up the back. Then I did some trimming until I had the shape I wanted for the bodice. I used one of my beading tools with a sharp point to punch holes along each side of the back opening so I could lace it up like a typical corset. I then sewed all of the trim to the bodice with embroidery thread.
For the skirt, I dug around my fabric stash and found some sage green tulle and sewed it to the bodice as well. Then I painted the tulle with some green and pink acrylics that I watered down a bit. On the last layer of paint, I added in some glitter and some of the printed flowers from the painting.

To display the mini dress, I created a little stand by drilling a hole in a block of wood and gluing a small round wooden dowel into the hole. I used wood glue to adhere the dowel to the block since it was wood to wood, but I used my trusty E6000 glue to adhere the top of the dowel to the inside of the dress.
For a finishing touch, I glued the block of wood to an inverted votive candle holder. Then I glued some gold rhinestone strips as well as three of the flowers from my prints to the candle holder so it matched the dress.

Being a lady during the Regency Era was a very special, very difficult and very demanding role. There were certain things expected from the girl’s side that affected her social status. Her deeds and behavior had an impact on her family—mostly on her father and her husband.
A lady’s reputation was based on her behavior but also on her appearance. The classic phrase “Caesar’s wife must be above suspicion” was a basic rule for ladies of the time.
In this article I will talk about the most important five rules that a lady who lived in England during the Regency Era was obliged to follow.
DO Stand Straight and Walk Tall
During the era, the basic rule for the appearance of a lady was, as far as we know, a complicated and strange combination of female weakness, but also the dynamics of a mother. So every lady would have to look sweet, weak, in need of protection but—at the same time—strong, and someone who was capable of showing harsh affection and love.
This was first and foremost translated into correct posture: people of the era were obsessed with it. A lady would have to stand upright and, even when sitting, her shoulders would have to be straight back. Her movements ought to be more feminine, more tender, more elegant.
Of course, a lady ‘s femininity and weakness were also used as a weapon, whenever needed. For example, if a lady was under pressure, she could easily use behaviors such as hysterical outbursts and fainting, as a way for her to avoid unpleasant circumstances.
DON’T Be Afraid to Faint
When a lady was confronted with foul language or bad manners, she was supposed to faint. Such shows of weakness were considered an appropriate reaction from women during the era.
In reality, however, Regency women were not so overly sensitive and subtle. But it was considered appropriate for them to pretend to be weak, to allow men to treat them as proper ladies.
A lady’s reputation and social status required her to be the definition of femininity. She was obliged to look and be prudent. A lady was to behave with ‘courteous dignity’ at all times.
In an obscene comment or in the view of a scene of violence, proper ladies were expected to be shocked. A lady should never be seen standing and talking on the street. Or to be seen talking to a man without a chaperone. Or to gossip in public. As you can imagine, just walking down a busy street could be a social etiquette minefield!
When it came to interacting with the opposite sex, the rules for the ladies were absolutely prohibited.
If a lady was unmarried and under the age of thirty (30), it was not allowed for her to be seen in the company of a man without having a chaperone. A chaperone would ensure that the lady’s reputation would not be tarnished, either by indiscreet eyes or by vulgar conversations with her companion .
A chaperone could be another lady, an appropriate man, or a servant. If the lady’s reputation was somewhat tarnished, it would indicate that the chaperone was unable to protect her and it would automatically ruin the reputation of the lady’s entire family. There were only two occasions where this unwritten rule could be overseen: a walk to the church or to a park, during the early morning hours.
Every person who wanted to socialize with other people needed to be introduced and introduce someone back. As in every other aspect of everyday life, there were some rules that had to be followed.
The need for formal introductions was another way for women’s reputations to be protected. A lady could not, for any reason, be introduced to someone arbitrarily and without a mediator. Usually, introductions were made by the ‘man of the house’ and once he made the appropriate introductions, the ladies in his household could socialize with their new acquaintances.
As a rule for an introduction, both parties ought to give their permission. This was even more absolute when it was a matter of hierarchy. When a person was of higher social status than the other, then they had to give their consent to have strangers be introduced to them, otherwise it would be considered a scandal.
Even more, a lady was forbidden to speak to another person—especially to another man—with intimacy. At no point could a lady address a gentleman by his first name. Instead, she would call him by his surname, or his title.
Finally, there was the act of bowing during the introduction between two people. The lady was expected to bow, slightly with her shoulders, while a gentleman was expected to greet a lady with a modest, not exaggerated, bow coming from the waist.
In my next article I will write about the other five rules of Etiquette that a girl had to follow in order for her to become a Lady during our favorite Regency period.
Until then, please let me know your thoughts about this article!

How-To Dress Up like Tinker Bell
1. Hair
Sure, there’s no law stipulating Tinkerbell MUST be blonde, but the classic Disney Tinkerbell character is blonde. You can use a temporary dye in your hair, or procure a blonde wig–ideally done up in a bun a la Tink.
2. Dress
You’ll need a spring-green dress with a pixie cut about mid-thigh. We recommend finding something at your local thrift store, then customizing it with scissors. Otherwise, a long-ish green T-shirt can be pretty easily modified into a Tinkerbell dress. Just cut a V-shape neck and add a belt made of thick twine to give it some form.
3. Nylons
The classic Tinkerbell look requires a skin-toned nylon. Our Casino Wear Tights have a natural skin tone hue that enhances your legs without creating a huge discrepancy between the color of your legs and your arms. If you want to get the look of the Tinkerbell characters at the Disney theme parks, our Nude Opaque Nylon Tights will get you there.
4. Wings
Face it, without fairy wings you’ll be a pretty lame Tinkerbell. Fortunately, making a pair of wings is fairly simple and requires only some coat hangers, pliers, ribbon, twine, Modge Podge and a little craftiness. You’re just going to undo the wire hangers, reshape them into wings, and cover them with nylons. We like the instructional video below, but suggest instead of using black ribbon, twine and tights, you’ll want to get the same materials in white or light green.
5. Shoes
Some old flats will do nicely for this. Trim off any extraneous bows or decorative elements, then spray them with a light coat of green spray paint. After the base coat dries, brush on Modge Podge and sprinkle with green glitter. Work in small sections. After the shoes have dried completely, brush on a finishing coat of Modge Podge to keep the glitter from flaking off. For a finishing touch, use a hot glue gun to attach a white pom-pom on top of each shoe.
6. Ears
If you want to strive for authenticity, you can also pick up a pair of fairy ears to wear out as well.
7. Fairy Wand
Finding a fairy wand can be as simple as whittling a stick. Paint it gold or leave it natural. Once your costume is complete, be sure to only use your wand for good!
Did you know?
Tinkerbell first appeared in author J. M. Barrie’s 1904 play Peter Pan. Described as “a common fairy” who mends pots and kettles and speaks with the sound of a tinkling bell understood only by those who know fairy language. Animated in the 1953 Disney adaptation of Peter Pan, Tinkerbell soon became the very symbol of Disney’s magic.

How to Make a Crashing Witch Halloween Door Hanging
Things You’ll Need
- Small wooden clothespin
- Pencil
- Acrylic paint set
- Paintbrush
- Flesh-colored pipe cleaner
- Coffee filter
- Hot glue gun
- White glue
- Glitter
Although your first encounter with fairies may have been watching Tinkerbell in “Peter Pan,” fairy lore has its origins in ancient pagan ceremonies. Fairies were also common in Celtic lore, are part of Irish folklore and have been present in English literature for hundreds of years. Fairies are tiny, winged, supernatural creatures that resemble humans. In most traditions, they have magical powers and cast mischievous spells on humans. Other legends propose that fairies act as protectors of humans. Creating a miniature fairy from an old-fashioned clothespin is an easy craft and is especially appropriate for children. These clothespins, sometimes called clothes pegs, have no spring in them, have two prongs and can be purchased at a craft store.
Place the clothespin vertically in front of you with the slit centered. Draw your fairy’s face on the top bulb of the clothespin. Use the rest of the clothespin to draw the clothes, with the bottom two prongs acting as the fairy’s legs.
Paint the face and body of your fairy with the acrylic paint and paintbrush. Paint your fairy’s dress and slippers brown and give her forest green tights. Let the paint dry completely.
Cut off 3 inches of pipe cleaner to form the fairy’s arms. Secure the middle of the pipe cleaner to the back of the clothespin with the hot glue and wait for it to set. Form the arms by bending the pipe cleaner at the elbow and wrists. Bend the ends of the pipe cleaners back on themselves to form the hands.
Wet the coffee filter with water, flatten it on your workspace and allow it to dry. This will become your fairy’s wings.
Spread white glue on the coffee filter and sprinkle glitter all over it. Let it dry.
With the filter flattened in front of you, place your index finger on the top edge and your thumb on the bottom edge. Pinch the two edges together to create the wings. Glue the pinched center to the back of the clothespin.
Old-fashioned clothespins come in a variety of sizes. Use the smallest size available to make your miniature fairy.
Most depictions of fairies include almond-shaped eyes and pointed ears. They are also commonly depicted wearing mini dresses and slippers.
To make them look like they are flying, hang your fairies from invisible strings around your house.
Use ribbon to embellish your fairy.
Instead of painting on clothes, you can also make fairy clothes with green and brown felt.
Warnings
Do not let small children use the hot glue gun and keep it and the cord away from them at all times.
When attending a renaissance festival, you should wear garb that is both historically correct and pertains to the persona you have chosen. Not everyone dresses up, you can wear street clothes if you like, but playing the part makes the experience worth the ticket price!
Persona
Are you a lady in waiting? A peasant wench? Dress according to how much money you imagine your ‘character’ would have to spend on clothes. Rich fabrics were only available to nobility, while drab neutral colors belonged to peasants.
Historically Accurate
There are a couple of attitudes on this one. Some people will say to avoid dressing like a Harry Potter character or a gothic vampire. Children can get away with dressing like fairies and the like, but the real ren-faire buffs will tell you that you should probably go for something more 16th century.
- Absolute no-no’s for historical accuracy: No sneakers with skirts, avoid wristwatches, and sunglasses. For ideas, check out this medieval clothing gallery.
- Go the other way entirely. I’ve seen people attend Ren Faire as officers from the USS Enterprise, or even as Dr. Who. If you’re having fun, then you’re doing it right!
The other camp of people will tell you to dress however you darn well please! I am of this attitude because ultimately a renaissance festival is a place to let go and have fun.
Wear a Nice Attitude
If your goal is to buy or create period costumes to achieve total historical accuracy, fine. But let’s let everyone else have a good time, too. Follow a “No Snarking” rule. If someone hasn’t asked you if their costume is historically accurate, keep the condescending pointers to yourself. If a fellow patron actually asks you for advice, give them some helpful constructive criticism.
Not Like a Desperate Wench
Remember that bodices and corsets are meant to leave something to the imagination. Cleavage is good fun, but don’t hike your corset more than halfway unless you want to risk some spillage! Skirts should be long with boots or slippers; not high heels. You wouldn’t want to walk around the festival grounds in heels, anyway.
Don’t Forget the Pirates!
Remember, girls can be pirates, too. If you don’t like the idea of going wench, wear a pair of cotton pants with a blouse. Loop a long scarf through the pants and wear as a belt.

The supermarket has apologised to the boy’s angry mum for ‘inappropriate remarks’
- 19:30, 6 OCT 2016
A supermarket has apologised to an angry mum after a delivery driver told her four-year-old son he should not be wearing a sparkly fairy dress.
Mum-of-two Wendy Armitage, 36, said her son, Isaac, was left upset by the incident and now rarely wants to dress up.
Isaac, who normally wears the fun outfit a few times a week, had been playing in a black and purple fairy outfit with his little sister when he answered the door to the Sainsbury’s driver at their home in Effingham.
His mum said she overheard the driver tell Isaac “someone needs to take you to one side and have a word with you, you can’t be a fairy, you should be a superhero”.
Wendy, who also has a two-year-old daughter, Felicity, said she could not believe her ears.

Wendy, who used to be a paediatric nurse, added: “He was wearing a fairy dress-up outfit and so was his little sister and he likes answering the door when he knows the delivery driver is coming.
As well as his fairy outfit, he also regularly dresses as Darth Vader, a doctor, nurse and vet.
Wendy added: “I tried to contact Sainsbury’s customer service afterwards and couldn’t get through so wrote on their Facebook page where they replied to me.
“I got a reply which said ‘sorry about that!’ and asked me to send them a message explaining what happened and they said they’ll look into it.
