Unlike Android, the iPhone doesn’t show the weather forecast on its lock screen. Fortunately, there’s a hidden feature that will show you the day’s weather report when you use your Apple smartphone in the morning. Here’s how to enable it.

This feature is more like a side effect of Do Not Disturb’s Scheduled feature available in iOS 12 and later. Once you enabled it, and you give the Weather app access to your location, you’ll see a forecast report for the day when you first tap the lock screen after the Do Not Disturb period is over.

To set it up, we’ll first need to schedule Do Not Disturb. The Do Not Disturb feature automatically mutes all incoming notifications (except, of course, if you have enabled Emergency Bypass).

Open the “Settings” app on your iPhone and go to the “Do Not Disturb” section.

How to see the weather forecast on your iphone lock screen

Next, tap the toggle next to the “Scheduled” option. As we’re setting up a schedule, we don’t need to turn on the Do Not Disturb toggle right now.

Set the starting and ending time for Do Not Disturb. You should set the end time to be around 10 to 15 minutes before you wake up.

Finally, tap the toggle next to the Dim Lock Screen option. This feature will dim the lock screen and ensure that the screen won’t light up when you get new notifications. New notifications will now directly go to the Notification Center and won’t appear on the lock screen until the Do Not Disturb schedule is over.

Now, go back to the Settings app’s main screen and tap the “Privacy” option.

Here, choose the “Weather” app.

Now, tap the “While Using the App” button to give the Weather app permission to see your location, so it can show you the local forecast.

Now, you’re all set. The next morning, when you wake up, and the Do Not Disturb time ends, you’ll see the day’s weather report on your Lock screen. You’ll see the current temperature, the high for the day, and if it’s going to rain.

Now that you’re starting to use the Do Not Disturb feature, take a look at our guide on mastering iPhone notifications.

We take the weather forecast for granted, but it can make all the difference each morning. Apple’s Weather app for iOS and iPadOS is a great way to see the daily forecast, but sometimes we can forget to look during our morning rush to work.

One way to start your soggy day on a dry note is to get weather updates when you wake up. This guide shows how to add a wake-up weather forecast on your iPhone lock screen each morning. It’s a simple way to get the day’s weather before dragging your groggy, caffeine-deprived self out of bed.

If you’d like to wake up to your local weather forecast, you can enable your phone to display today’s weather as a “Good Morning” or a “Good Evening” screen, depending on your sleep schedule. The notification can be set through the Bedtime feature in iOS 12 devices— You set your sleep schedule in the Clock app. For devices with iOS 14 , you’ll follow a slightly different path. Instead of the clock app, Apple replaced the Bedtime feature with a Sleep Mode feature located in your Health app. Check out the following steps to set your Good Morning forecast screen in iOS 14:

Step 1: Open the Health app and tap the Browse tab in the bottom-right corner.

Step 2: Tap Sleep on the following screen.

Step 3: If the app doesn’t prompt you to create a schedule, tap Full Schedule & Options.

Step 4: Tap the Toggle next to Sleep Schedule to turn it on (green).

Step 5: Tap Set Your First Schedule.

Step 6: Set your Bedtime and Wake Up times, plus the Days you want the schedule active, and then tap Add.

Step 7: Scroll down and tap Options.

Step 8: Tap the Toggle next to Turn On Automatically under Sleep Mode to enable this feature (green).

If the Good Morning screen doesn’t appear

If you’ve completed all the steps to set your sleep schedule, and a Good Morning forecast doesn’t show up on your screen, you may need to personalize your Do Not Disturb settings. The following instructions will lead you through those steps:

Step 3: A schedule appears. Select a start time (From) and an end time (To) by tapping both numbers. The end time must match your Wake Up time alarm.

Step 4: Make sure Dim Lock Screen is toggled on (green).

We now need to check the Weather apps settings:

Step 5: While still on the Do Not Disturb screen, tap Settings in the top-left corner and scroll until you see Privacy. Tap this.

Step 6: Tap Location Services .

Step 7: Scroll down and tap Weather to set the app’s permission to While Using the App or While Using the App or Widgets .

It’s that easy. After you’ve finished setting permissions, your iPhone’s lock screen will display a short weather forecast every morning— generally with a brief overlook of weather conditions, the expected high, and the current temperature. With this feature on, you’ll only see that forecast once a day, when you first pick up your phone and when your iPhone’s Wake Up time alarm goes off. If you happen to pick up your iPhone during the scheduled “Do Not Disturb” mode, you will see “DO NOT DISTURB ON” message with a moon icon.

As soon as “Do Not Disturb” period ends, you will find iPhone greeting you with Weather information on its Lock Screen.

How to see the weather forecast on your iphone lock screen

In general, most users would want to see the Weather widget when they wake up in the morning. However, you can make the Weather widget appear at any time on the Lock Screen of your iPhone.

In iOS 12, Apple has included a somewhat hidden feature that lets you see the day’s weather forecast on your iPhone’s Lock Screen when you check it for the first time after waking up.

How to see the weather forecast on your iphone lock screen
The feature is part of Apple’s Do Not Disturb at Bedtime mode, which prevents notifications from being displayed on your iPhone’s Lock Screen when you’re supposed to be sleeping.

Many users don’t realize you can get the weather forecast to show on the Lock Screen because of the odd way that Apple has implemented the feature. Regardless, here’s how to get it working.

Launch the Settings app on your iPhone.
  • Tap Do Not Disturb.
  • Make sure the Scheduled and Bedtime buttons are toggled on so that they’re both green.
  • You can also set your sleep and wake schedule here by adjusting the From and To times.
  • Return to the main Settings screen and tap Privacy.
  • Tap Location Services.
  • Tap Weather in the list of apps.
  • Under Allow Location Access, tap Always.
  • Exit the Settings app.
  • With that done, next time it’s time to wake up and Bedtime Mode is scheduled to go off, your iPhone will display the usual “Good morning!” message along with the day’s weather, including the current temperature, weather conditions, and forecast.

To make the forecast vanish from your Lock Screen, simply tap Dismiss. To switch the temperature scale between Celsius and Fahrenheit, launch the Weather app and scroll to the bottom of the weather locations list, where you’ll find the option to do so.

It’s worth noting that once you unlock your iPhone, the weather forecast will disappear for the rest of the day, and it won’t return until the next day when you wake up and access the device after Bedtime mode has turned itself off.

As it stands, the Lock Screen weather feature offers no other flexibility, and it won’t work unless you allow the Weather app to always access your location data. Hopefully Apple will eventually change this to make it a more useful Lock Screen “widget” in a future update to iOS.

Buried in iOS is a handy feature to offer up weather details on your Lock screen before you start your day. Read on for how to add weather summary to your Lock screen on iPhone.

Adding weather summary to the Lock screen on iPhone is more or less a secret feature that’s available when using Do Not Disturb along with Do Not Disturb at Bedtime. There are a couple of settings to dial in, follow along below.

How to add weather summary to your Lock screen on iPhone

    1. Open Settingsand head to Do Not Disturb
    2. Turn the top toggle on, as well as Scheduledand Bedtime
    3. Customize your scheduled DND time by tapping From/To
    4. Head back to the main settings screen and tap Privacy
    5. Choose Location Services
    6. Swipe down to Weather
    7. Set allow location access to Always

After you’ve got all these settings turned on, your weather summary should show up the following morning after your scheduled and Bedtime DND period is over.

    Here’s how the process looks:

How to see the weather forecast on your iphone lock screen

The last step is to turn location access for the Weather app to Always.

How to see the weather forecast on your iphone lock screen

A couple of notes on this feature. If you haven’t used Do Not Disturb before, you may want to customize features like “Allow Calls From” so favorites or others can still reach you.

In my own use, I noticed the weather summary didn’t appear the morning after, but actually started working two days after applying the above settings.

The iPhone has an optional secret weather widget for the devices locked screen that can be enabled through an unlikely feature; Do Not Disturb mode. With this feature in use, you’ll see the days current temperature, weather conditions, and the forecast when you glance at your iPhone screen as you start the day. It’s a great feature, but if you haven’t stumbled into it yourself then don’t be surprised as it is fairly hidden and not labeled to indicate that a weather widget will display on the lock screen.

Available for iPhone only, in order to enable and use the Weather Widget at the iPhone Lock Screen you will need iOS 12 or later on the phone, and you’ll have to use both the Do Not Disturb with Bedtime Mode features, as well as allow the Weather app to have location services access.

How to Enable Weather on Lock Screen for iPhone with iOS 13 / iOS 12

Want to see the weather on your iPhone lock screen when you start your day? Here’s how to get this working:

Open the “Settings” app on the iPhone
  • Choose “Do Not Disturb” from the Settings options
  • Tap to enable both “Scheduled” and “Bedtime”
  • Adjust the Scheduled “From” and “To” times to suit your individual sleep and wake schedule, the ‘To’ time will be when the weather widget appears on the iPhone screen until it is unlocked
  • Now go back to the main Settings screen and go to “Privacy” and then to “Location Services”
  • Locate the “Weather” app in the Location Services screen and choose “Always” for Weather location access allowance
  • Exit out of Settings
  • Optional but recommended: it’s a good idea to use Emergency Bypass on important contacts so they can bypass Do Not Disturb Mode when it’s enabled on your iPhone if need be, essentially that allows select contacts to get through to your device even if you have Do Not Disturb enabled on the iPhone, and it’s great to setup for family members, a spouse, partner, close friend, your boss (just kidding), or any other person or contact number where it is critical to reach you.

Once scheduled Do Not Disturb and Bedtime Mode are enabled on the iPhone, you will have access to the weather widget at the lock screen when you wake the device in the morning.

Once you unlock the iPhone for the first time on a given day, the weather widget disappears for that day until the following day. You can also dismiss the weather widget from iPhone lock screen by tapping on the “Dismiss” button.

The weather widget will continuously show up on the lock screen of the iPhone as long as Do Not Disturb on a schedule and Bedtime Mode are enabled.

If you look at the iPhone display during the scheduled Do Not Disturb During Bedtime period, you will see a little message on the iPhone screen stating the following: “DO NOT DISTURB DURING BEDTIME – Calls will be silenced and notifications will appear in Notification Center.” along with a little moon and ZzZ icon to indicate that the feature is enabled. This serves as a reminder that the feature is on, and when the scheduled Do Not Disturb time ends is when you’ll see the weather displayed on the device lock screen.

Looking for the little moon icon in the status bar is also helpful, as sometimes users can find that they have somehow inadvertently enabled Do Not Disturb which causes an iPhone to not ring or make any sounds when it’s on, and the simplest way to confirm that is to look for the little crescent moon icon.

Do Not Disturb During Bedtime and scheduling Do Not Disturb Mode in iOS are just two of a variety of helpful tricks with Do Not Disturb mode in the Apple device landscape. Another great feature to use is Do Not Disturb While Driving on iPhone, and on the Mac you can give yourself some peace and quiet while you work by using Do Not Disturb to prevent alerts and notifications from pestering your Mac as you stay productive.

It would be great if the weather widget on the lock screen was just a simple settings option that could be toggled on or off generally in iOS for iPhone and iPad for that matter, and visible all the time at the lock screen without using Do Not Disturb mode, but for now that’s not an option (and it may never be). So if you want to see weather on your locked iPhone screen, it’ll be in the mornings only (or whenever you start your day), and as described in this article.

If you know of any other helpful tips or tricks similar to this one, or you have any thoughts on this particular topic of the locks screen weather widget, share with us in the comments below!

By default, you never see the weather forecast on the lock screen of your iPhone, but this can be set. iPhoned shows you how to wake up with the weather forecast on your screen.

Set weather forecast on lock screen

To check the weather in the morning, you will have to lock your iPhone. You can place the weather in a widget, or you open the app to see the current forecast and temperature of your location. But how useful would it be if you could check that without having to unlock your phone?

Apple has addressed Do Not Disturb mode in iOS 12, allowing more possibilities with the feature. You can also quickly set it for an hour or until you leave your current location. The extension of Do Not Disturb also ensures that you can set the automatic weather forecast at set times with a small detour.

→ Read also: This is how you activate ‘Do not disturb’ while actively using your iPhone

For example, when you wake up, your lock screen will already have today’s weather forecast ready. This saves you the trouble of opening the Weather app or going to your Weather widget. You can set the automatic weather report as follows.

Activate the automatic weather report in 6 steps

    1. Open Settings and go to the ‘Do not disturb’ menu;
    2. Here, set the switches to green behind ‘Do not disturb’, behind ‘Scheduled’ and then also behind ‘Bedtime’;
    3. After this, a from-to-time will appear, set this to when you want the Bedtime function to be enabled;
    4. Then go back to the home screen of the Settings app and open the ‘Privacy’ menu;
    5. Here, tap on ‘Location Services’ and scroll to ‘Weather’;
    6. Open ‘Weather’ and make sure ‘Always’ is selected.

If you don’t normally use the Do Not Disturb mode and Bedtime option, it can be useful to make some additional settings. This way you can make sure that you don’t miss any important calls despite Do Not Disturb.

If you’d rather get the weather summary at a different time than in the morning, just change the scheduled times in the Do Not Disturb menu. Unfortunately, it is not possible to set multiple moments for this.

Wouldn’t it be nice to have the current weather data always displayed on the iPhone Lock screen? Although not yet officially confirmed by Apple, you can show the weather forecast on the iPhone Lock screen with a little trick. We will show you how it works!

Enable weather display in Lock screen

To show the weather data in the Lock screen, we make use of the “Dim Lock Screen” option within the “Do not disturb” feature.

To do this, go to the “Settings” app on your iPhone and tap “Do Not Disturb”. Now activate “Scheduled” by tapping the button to the right of it. The option will be extended by “From/To” and “Dim Lock Screen”. The latter option ensures that no messages are displayed on the iPhone during the scheduled period and the Lock screen is darkened.

So tap the button right next to “Dim Lock Screen” in order to enable the feature. Then use “From/To” to select a time period in which the function is to be active (e.g. 22:00 to 07:00).

How to see the weather forecast on your iphone lock screen

As soon as the scheduled “Do Not Disturb” period ends and you enter the iPhone Lock screen, the weather screen will appear. For example, if you get up in the morning and look at your iPhone, you’ll know what the weather will be like. However, once you unlock your iPhone, the weather indicator on the Lock screen will disappear and will not appear again until the next scheduled “Do Not Disturb” period has passed.

How to see the weather forecast on your iphone lock screen

Alternatively, you can also enable the weather display in combination with the “Bedtime” feature in the “Clock” app.

Open the “Clock” app, go to “Bedtime” and set a time for your personal bedtime under Schedule. Then go to “Options” in the upper left corner and activate “Do Not Disturb During Bedtime”. As with the “Do Not Disturb” feature, this will darken the Lock screen and prevent messages from reaching you temporarily. Confirm your selection with a tap on “Done” in the top right corner.

How to see the weather forecast on your iphone lock screen

Once you finish your bedtime by turning off the alarm on the Lock screen, the weather screen will appear. And disappear again when you unlock your iPhone.

Of course, a solution where the weather is permanently displayed on the Lock screen would be desirable. However, Apple currently only allows the one-time display after the planned “Do Not Disturb” function has expired. If the function will be extended soon, we will inform you about it here.

Does the iPhone have weather apps that show the temperature on the icon on your home screen?

Android had a live widget with time and ten right there so I had the time and temp in the middle of my home screen in big letters,

Now, I have to right swipe to action screen and scroll down through 10 things to see basic information that was right there on my Samsung.

    Posted on Nov 30, 2019 10:11 AM

You can display certain widgets on the Today screen on the iPhone, which is what you are referring to when you swipe. The only thing that displays directly on the Lock screen is the time and date. As far as scrolling down 10 things, that is a decision you make as to what widgets you display there. You can tap on the Edit button and delete things you do not want, and you also have the option to move things up and down that list. You could place the weather at the top of the list if you wish.

The difference between Android and Apple. If it is that important it is a deal breaker, I would suggest you move back to Android. You are going to find differences in devices and systems. There are differences in the different versions of Android OS, as well as the different carriers add to their systems as well.

This is a completely legit requirement. Apple watch shows weather way all times and you have much more flexibility for settings of widgets than on iPhones

The iPhone does not show anything else on the lock screen. The only exception is the widgets that you can add to the Today screen you can access from the lock screen. That can provide you with Weather, as one of the choices.

Question: Q: Temperature on lock/home screen More Less

Getting your local weather forecast on your iPhone’s lock screen is now as simple as installing and launching an app.

Sometimes developers come up with some pretty clever workarounds to provide users the features they want, as is the case with Lock Screen Weather.

Lock Screen Weather acts as a media player by using the “cover art” display on the lock screen to display your local weather forecast.

To get your local weather forecast on your lock screen, visit the App Store and download Lock Screen Weather [iTunes link], it will set you back $0.99.

How to see the weather forecast on your iphone lock screenScreenshot by Jason Cipriani

After installing the app, launch it and you will see the Enabled switch turn on by itself. You can then set your location either by city name or current location, turn off the five-day forecast or change from Fahrenheit to Celsius.

You will also notice at the bottom of the screen the option to play a sound in the background. You can pick between silence, meadow, jungle, lake and ocean sounds. These sounds will continuously play as long as the app is enabled.

    Screenshot by Jason Cipriani

You may notice while the app is enabled, the icon which normally indicates the media player is being used and something is currently playing will be present. This is due to the way Lock Screen Weather interacts with iOS 5, displaying the weather forecast as cover art on your lock screen.

    Screenshot by Jason Cipriani

As long as the app is enabled, you can view the weather forecast on your lock screen at any time.

To turn off the background sounds as well as the lock screen weather display, launch the app again and toggle the Enable switch to off. Turning the display back on is as simple as launching the app and allowing it to enable itself again.

Lock Screen Weather is compatible with an iPhone (3GS, 4, and 4S) or iPod touch (3rd or 4th gen) running iOS 5.

    Streamline your morning routine.

Here’s how I start my day: I snooze my iPhone’s alarm once (OK, fine — twice), roll out of bed, walk to bathroom, and brush my teeth while checking email and the weather. With a hidden tidbit of iOS 12, I now get a brief but detailed weather forecast right on my iPhone lock screen to help streamline my morning routine. Here’s how to set it up.

    Lock-screen weather forecast

You need three ingredients to get a lock-screen weather forecast on your iPhone: iOS 12, the Stock weather app set to always know your location and the Bedtime alarm.

I’ve been using the Bedtime alarm since iOS 10 ; I love it because it saves me from needing to set an alarm each night, and a gentle alarm that slowly increases in volume is a much more civilized way to wake than a simple blaring alarm. It’s even better with the secret lock-screen weather forecast that iOS 12 adds.

    Screenshot by Matt Elliott/CNET

To set the Bedtime alarm, open the Clock app, tap Bedtime and set your Bedtime and Wake times. Next, tap Options and toggle on Do Not Disturb During Bedtime. This setting dims the display and silences all calls, texts and alerts during your bedtime hours. What goes unsaid is that this setting also displays the weather forecast on your lock screen.

Once you unlock your phone, the forecast disappears and doesn’t return until the following morning when your alarm goes off. Also, the forecast doesn’t appear while you’re snoozing your alarm. When you turn off the alarm, it appears until you unlock your iPhone or tap the Dismiss button at the bottom to to get rid of it.

    Screenshot by Matt Elliott/CNET

With your Bedtime alarm set, you’ll need to make sure that the Weather app is set to always know your location or it won’t send the forecast to the lock screen. Go to Settings > Privacy > Location Services and check to make sure the Weather app is set to Always allow location access.

Unlike Android, iPhone doesn’t display the weather forecast on its lock screen. Fortunately, there is a hidden feature that will show you the day’s weather forecast when you use your Apple smartphone in the morning. Here’s how to activate it.

This feature is more like a side effect of the scheduled Do Not Disturb feature available in iOS 12 and later. Once you activate it and give the Weather app access to your location, you will see a forecast report for the day you first tap the lock screen after the period. Do not disturb over.

To set it up, we first need to schedule Do Not Disturb. The Do Not Disturb feature automatically mutes all incoming notifications (except, of course, if you’ve turned on Emergency Bypass).

Open the “Settings” app on your iPhone and navigate to the “Do Not Disturb” section.

Next, tap the toggle next to the “Scheduled” option. Since we’re setting a schedule, we don’t need to turn on the Do Not Disturb toggle just yet.

Set the start and end time for Do Not Disturb. You should set the end time between 10 and 15 minutes before you wake up.

Finally, tap on the toggle next to the Dim Lock Screen option. This feature dims the lock screen and ensures that the screen does not turn on when you receive new notifications. New notifications will now go directly to Action Center and will not appear on the lock screen until the Do Not Disturb schedule is complete.

Now go back to the main Settings app screen and tap on the “Privacy” option.

    Select the “Location services” option.

    Here, choose the “Weather” application.

Now press the “While using the app” button to allow the Weather app to see your location, so that it can show you the local forecast.

Now you are ready to go. The next morning, when you wake up and the non-disturbance time ends, you will see today’s weather report on your lock screen. You will see the current temperature, the maximum temperature for the day and if it is going to rain.

Now that you start using Do Not Disturb, check out our guide to mastering iPhone notifications.

iPhone displaying Weather forecast on the Lock Screen.

Until now, the weather report was only accessible in the Today’s view, with the help of the Weather widget, or obviously if you open the Weather app from the Home Screen. This new feature has been designed to work in conjunction with the iPhone’s revamped Do Not Disturb mode. Alongside the new Bedtime option and the 3D Touch shortcuts, Do Not Disturb is also triggering the current weather report on your iPhone’s Lock Screen.

5 Steps To Display The Weather Forecast On Your iPhone’s Lock Screen
Whenever a Do Not Disturb mode cycle ends, the day’s weather report is displayed on the Lock Screen. This is designed to give you a heads-up about the weather as soon as you wake up. Here is what you have to do to benefit from this new feature.
    1. Weather Location Check that the Weather app knows your location. This ensures that you get the relevant weather forecast when you glance at the Lock Screen. This is an easy way to get the weather of the day before you get out of your arrogant, caffeine-deprived bed.

How to add a wake-up weather forecast to your iPhone lock screen

Weather forecasting appears on your “Good Morning” screen – or “Good Evening” screen, depending on your wake-up schedule. It is based on the Bedtime feature introduced in iOS 12 via the watch app. With iOS 14, however, Apple replaced Bedtime with a sleep mode in the Health app. How to enable Good Morning Screen in iOS 14:

Phase 1: Open up Health App and tap Browse Tab in the lower right corner.

Phase 2: Tap Sleep On the following screen.

step 3: If the application does not prompt you to create a schedule, tap Full schedule and options.

step 4: Tap on Toggle Near to Sleep schedule (Green) to turn on.

Step 5: Tap Set your first schedule.

Step 6: set your sleep time And get up Time, plus day You want to activate the schedule, and then tap to link.

Step 7: Scroll down and tap the option.

Step 8: Tap on Toggle Near to Turn on automatically under which sleep mode To enable this feature (green).

If the good morning screen does not appear

If you have created a sleep schedule and the Good Morning screen does not appear, follow these instructions to create a custom do not disturb schedule:

Phase 1: open Adjustment And tap do not disturb.

stage 2: Tap Gray toggle Near to Scheduled. It turns green, indicating that the feature is now active.

step 3: A schedule appears. Choose start time (From) And an end time (Service) By tapping both numbers. The last time should match your wake up time alarm.

step 4: Make sure Dim lock screen (Green) toggled on.

Now we need to check the settings of the weather app:

Step 5: Still on the Do not disturb screen, tap Adjustment Scroll down in the upper-left corner and tap to Privacy.

    Step 6: Tap location services.

Step 7: Scroll down and tap weather To set application permission While using the app or While using an application or widget.

After completing these steps, your iPhone’s lock screen will show a brief weather forecast each morning, including the current temperature, expected high and normal weather conditions. This forecast is shown only once each day after your iPhone’s wake up time alarm goes off and you pick up the phone for the first time.

How to see the weather forecast on your iphone lock screen

The weather forecast. We take it very much for granted, but it can make all the difference each morning between keeping dry and getting off to a soggy start. Fortunately, your iPhone comes with its own Weather app. But as good as this app is, you can sometimes forget to look at it in the morning before stepping outside.

Still, even if you don’t always check the weather before heading off, your iPhone provides a very convenient way of giving you the latest weather update as soon as you wake up. We explain in this article how to activate this ‘wake-up’ iPhone weather forecast, which will appear on your lock screen each morning. It’s a very simple and cost-effective way of keeping up with the weather and of avoiding too much cold or rain.

How to add a wake-up weather forecast to your iPhone lock screen

Adding a wake-up weather forecast is a piece of cake. However, you have to be running iOS 12 or later on your iPhone. Otherwise, it’s not possible — sorry iPhone 5 users.

Assuming you are using iOS 12 or 13, you can add a morning weather forecast by going to Settings and then Do Not Disturb, where you can schedule a period during which you won’t receive calls or notifications. You then need to go to Privacy, so that you can switch location services for the Weather app to Always or While Using the App, depending on your version of iOS.

Here’s a step-by-step rundown of what you need to do:

Step 1: Open Settings. Next, tap Do Not Disturb.

Step 2: Tap the grey toggle switch next to Scheduled, so that it slides into the green ‘On’ position. Next, tap the From To bar to set when you want Do Not Disturb mode to be active. Lastly, make sure Dim Lock Screen is switched on.

Step 3: Go back to Settings. Scroll down and tap Privacy. Tap Location Services. Scroll down and tap Weather. For iOS 12, tap Always. For iOS 13 or later, select While Using the App.

That’s it. Once you’ve completed these steps, your iPhone’s lock screen will show you a brief weather forecast each morning, including current temperature, the expected high, as well as the general weather condition. This forecast is shown only once each day after your iPhone’s Bedtime alarm goes off and you pick up the phone for the first time. So don’t be surprised when it doesn’t work later.

And if you happen to be really into your weather forecasts, why not take a look at our article on the best weather apps for the iPhone. Because when you check the weather on your lock screen each morning, you may find that you need a bit more detail. Especially when a blizzard or storm is forecast.

How to see the weather forecast on your iphone lock screen

You can get a weather forecast on your iPhone Lock Screen whenever it’s time to wake up. Here are the steps to do this.

What to know about seeing weather widget on iPhone Lock Screen

The weather widget is part of the Do Not Disturb feature for the Bedtime mode. You’ll need to activate this mode to see the widget.

Also, keep in mind that you will only see this widget after a Do Not Disturb session has ended and the iPhone remains locked. Once you unlock your phone, the widget won’t be seen again until the device ends another Do Not Disturb cycle.

    Widget setup

Once Do Not Disturb is turned on, you’ll need to make sure weather always has access to your data. To do so:

    1) Go into your Settings and select Privacy.

    2) Next, tap Location Services.

How to see the weather forecast on your iphone lock screen

    3) Scroll and tap on Weather.

    4) On the final screen, under Allow Location Access, choose Always.

    It’s time to wake up

The next thing you need to do is sleep — or at least experience some quiet time. When Do Not Disturb ends, you’ll see the weather on your iPhone Lock Screen.

In the example below, you can see a “Good Afternoon” message since the screenshot was created during the day, not the night.

How to see the weather forecast on your iphone lock screen

As you can see, the widget shows a welcome message, a written forecast for the upcoming day and night, plus a weather icon and current temperature.

    1) Click Dismiss to remove widget for the day.

The weather widget in Do Not Disturb in iOS is easy to set up and even more straightforward to use. It’s a nice little feature that should prove useful on those dark winter mornings when you need to get up and want to know the forecast by looking at your iPhone Lock Screen before leaving the bed.

Hidden deep in the recesses of the Settings menu is a feature Apple, presumably, wants you to use. Part of iOS 12, Apple included a fairly basic Lock Screen notification that gives you the day’s weather each morning shortly after you quit hitting the snooze button.

The feature is part of Do Not Disturb at Bedtime mode, a setting that keeps pesky calls and texts from waking you during the solid four hours of sleep you manage to pull each night. The forecast will appear each morning, the first time you check your phone, so long as the following settings are enabled. Once you dismiss it, or swipe up, though, the notification is gone. You’ll need to get your weather from Siri or the Weather app, like a plebeian.

There are a lot of things that make iOS great, but lock screen widgets are not among them. If you want more information on your lock screen other than the date, time, and notifications without having to swipe to a sidebar of widgets, you’d normally look toward Android. However, iOS 12 aims to shake that up a bit with a secret Weather widget for the lock screen — not for the Today view.

This widget isn’t something Apple publicized much during the keynote presentation at WWDC 2018 or Apple’s “Gather Round” event, but you can clearly see it on the screen of an iPhone X when Craig Federighi was talking about gently easing into notifications with Do Not Disturb.

How to see the weather forecast on your iphone lock screen

If you’re currently running iOS 12 and want this widget to show up on your iPhone pronto, there really isn’t much to it. The only downside is that you won’t be able to see this Weather widget all the time.

As you could probably guess, it’s a part of the Do Not Disturb feature, specifically its “Bedtime Mode.” So, you’ll only be able to view the widget after a Do Not Disturb session has ended and the iPhone remains locked. Once it’s unlocked, the widget will disappear until the end of the next Do Not Disturb cycle.

Step 1: Set Weather Access to ‘Always’

Because of how the Weather widget works, it requires that the Weather app be allowed to access your location at all times. If you have it set to “While Using the App” or “Never,” the Weather widget will never appear on the lock screen.

To make sure it’ll work, open the Settings app. Tap “Privacy,” then “Location Services” (you can also find this menu by searching for it from the main Settings page). Select “Weather” near the bottom, then ensure “Always” is checked.

Step 2: Set Up a Do Not Disturb Time

Since the widget is only accessible through Bedtime Mode in Do Not Disturb, you’ll need to schedule a timeframe for Do Not Disturb and make sure “Bedtime Mode” is toggled on. Once this time ends, the weather widget will appear on your display, with a welcoming wake-up message such as “Good Morning” or “Good Afternoon.”

Typically, you’d schedule the time based on when you wake up. However, if you’d like to see the Weather widget right now on your lock screen, set the end time for Do Not Disturb to just one minute past the current time, then lock your iPhone. When you wake your iPhone (not unlock it), the Weather widget should appear on the lock screen. Once you unlock your iPhone, the widget will disappear.

If you don’t really care about waking up to a Weather widget or even using Do Not Disturb at all but want to see it during another time of the day, you can just set it for one minute with “Bedtime Mode” on. This way, you’re only silencing notifications for 1 minute, which I’m sure is enough for all of you to go without alerts. (We tested zero minutes and that wouldn’t work.)

For example, you’d like to see what the weather is like 30 minutes or so before your afternoon jog or stroll through the neighborhood, so you set Do Not Disturb for, say, 2:00–2:01 p.m., with “Bedtime Mode” selected. Then, when you pick up your iPhone in between the end of the Do Not Disturb time and, say, your 2:30 p.m. walk or jog, you’ll see exactly what the weather is like before you head outside.

Step 3: Check Out the Widget in Action

All that’s left to do is wake up (if you set it for your actual wake-up time, that is) to your Weather widget! The first time you wake up your iPhone’s screen outside of the Do Not Disturb time frame, you’ll be greeted by the Weather widget, as well as a “Good [Time of Day/Night]” message.

Of course, once you unlock your iPhone, the widget will disappear until the next scheduled DND time ends. Also, tapping on the widget makes it disappear. Even worse, waking but not unlocking the iPhone, then letting the display go dark again will make it vanish too. So really, you may not even see it sometimes because it comes and goes so quickly.

Hopefully, Apple implements a more permanent Weather widget for the lock screen, but until then, we’ll simply keep resetting our Do Not Disturb times based on when we want to see the weather forecast.
