TikTok users are finding out if they’re more like a Golden Retriever or a black cat with a viral test.
For years, people on social media have said everyone either has Golden Retriever or black cat energy – and you can’t be both.
If someone is a black cat, they are calm, introverted, and don’t talk a lot, whereas a Golden Retriever is bouncy, energetic, and speaks all the time.
Both have their good and bad qualities and the pooch and feline often complement each other perfectly in relationships.

How to take the Golden Retriever or Black Cat Test
The test is on a site called uQuiz where people all over the world can create quizzes for other people to take.
It’s called Are you a Black Cat or a Golden Retriever? and is completely free to do. Just visit the link, enter your name and press ‘start quiz’ to get started.
“Hi! Are you having trouble figuring out which trope you fall under when it comes to relationships?” the description says. “Or maybe you’re just curious as to which fits you best? Take this quiz to find out!”
It was made by a mystery person called Mia Cathart and has taken over TikTok in January 2023.
You’ll be asked 11 questions
Once you’ve started the quiz, you’ll be asked 11 questions to determine whether you’re a black cat or a Golden Retriever.
The first one is “which Bojack Horseman quote speaks to you?” then it moves on to “which element of harmony are you?” and “which book catches your eye?”.
Other questions include choosing a mythical creature, Marina and the Diamonds lyric, your favorite color palette and your preferred social media platform.
Once you’ve answered all 11 questions, including which animal you and your friends think you’re most like, you’ll be shown your result.

There are four different results
There are actually four answers you can get: Golden Retriever, black cat, black Labrador and golden cat. Plus, you’ll be shown which percentage you are of each.
The Golden Retriever is “fun, full of energy, and always in the mood to cheer others up,” the test says. “Your energy is much appreciated by those who need a pick-me-up.”
“Your genuine joy and light is a beacon for those who are lucky to be in your life, and they will love you for being your true self.”
It’s known for its silly antics and occasional clumsiness and “radiates sun and life for those lucky enough to love you”.
The black cat is the complete opposite, and the Labrador and golden cat are somewhere in between. Take the test to see which one you are!
