Coco’s parents contributed the majority of the genes responsible for her athleticism. Her father used to play basketball at the collegiate level for the school now known as Georgia State University. Later in life, he decided to pursue a profession in health care administration instead of continuing his sporting career.
The same can be said with Candi, who represented Florida State University in track and field competitions. In the end, both Cory and Candi influenced their daughter to participate in extracurricular activities, such as track and basketball. Coco, on the other hand, decided to play tennis.
She spent her childhood observing strong African American women such as Serena Williams dominating the game. And at the young age of six, she made the decision to give the sport a go.
