Those who were touched by the loss of Kristen Turnbow, affectionately known as Kirsten Crawford, from Belton, Missouri, announced her death. According to rumours, she passed away this past Sunday. During this trying time, our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends.

What Happened to Kristen Turnbow?
On Friday, 22nd, Kirsten was took to Liberty Hospital ER for some really debilitating migraines she’s been experiencing for a couple weeks. Constant minor headaches for almost 2 months before that. Within just a couple hours, they told us they found a growth but wanted an MRI to get a better look. The MRI confirmed that it was a tumour that they later determined was an aggressive glioblastoma.
After being transferred to KU Medical Centre, they decided it was urgent but not an emergency so they scheduled removal for later this week. Friday night and Saturday were good days other than being stuck in a hospital. Sunday brought a lot of pain to Kirsten’s head that the doctors and nurses couldn’t seem to get under control of. Not for lack of trying for sure. The entire staff at KU Med were absolutely exemplary every single step of the way.
On Monday morning, she was still in pain and very lethargic. I helped her to the bathroom, where she collapsed. They did everything they could to help, but when I was let back into the room, she was on full life support. Her tumour had bled some time in the night and caused massive pressure on her brain, causing a seizure followed by cardiac arrest. In all of that, her brain shifted in a downward position and crushed the nerves in her brain stem. More testing in the following days confirmed what we feared most: that there would be no meaningful recovery.
This moved us to our next crossroad, as Kirsten had always said she wanted to be an organ donor. We worked closely with KU Med staff and the Midwest Transplant Network, and she was able to donate her kidneys and heart valves. Unfortunately, the glioblastoma prevented her from being able to donate any other organs. Today, she was moved to Heartland Cremation Society, and we were able to make her final arrangements. More information is to come as more plans are made.
