Marshawn, who resided in Hazel Crest, was a beloved freshman at Hill Crest HS, and a talented football player who played for the Chicago Seahawks Youth Football team AYF. #ChitownCrimeChasers are also familiar with Marshawn and the Seahawks.
As many are hurting, he will be truly missed and remembered by his friends and family, school, and teammates.
This is the second shooting that took place within the last 2 weeks at a Chicago area high school football game. As a lot of high school and AYF homecoming football games are starting now, safety and security is now the top priority for our kids and the public.
Its sad that our kids can’t even go to football games and enjoy themselves without getting shot. No one should ever have to feel unsafe in that environment. We are losing our youth everyday to senseless gun violence we continue to see plague our communities in Chicago and the suburbs. Something must be done now 💯
Please keep the family lifted up in prayer as they mourn the loss of their loved one in Jesus Name 💯🙏🏾 #RIP #SHAWNO 🕊🕯✝

Hello, My name is Tina Thomas. I’m the aunt of Marshawn Mitchell and Amanda Lenoir. I really appreciate you taking the moment to read our story. Our family has been blindsided by the death of my 14yr old nephew Marshawn Mitchell who was shot and killed at Hillcrest High School on September 15, 2023. Marshawn was a fun-loving, caring student and athlete. Marshawn had the biggest heart and loved his family and friends. This heart wrenching time has changed us forever. We are seeking support for the parents (Amanda Lenoir) & (Michael Mitchell) to aid and bring justice for their son. We come to you seeking support for Marshawn and our family’s tragedy. It can help bring awareness to senseless acts of gun violence that is killing our kids across Illinois at an alarming rate. Safety measures need to be brought to our schools to protect our students.
