Police in Mesa say that on July 17, an officer stopped a car near Southern Avenue and Mesa Drive. Michael Medina, who is 33 years old, is said to have run away from the car, and the police went after him.

Det. Richard Encinas said, “One officer caught up with Medina and touched him. This caused him to fall forward, where he became unconscious and unresponsive after being taken into custody.”

Officers took Medina’s handcuffs off and did what they could to save her life until firefighters came. Medina was taken to a hospital, but he died there later.

Police say they had been looking for Medina since June 22. He was wanted on five warrants and multiple charges, including making threats and threatening, disorderly conduct, burglary, criminal trespass, and resisting arrest.

Encinas said, “This investigation is still going on, and more information will be given as the investigation goes on.” “The Maricopa County Attorney’s Office will look over all the information and evidence in this case.”
