As fans countdown to the final episode, poor international reviews and ratings throw doubt into the Shinobi No Ittoki season 2 renewal status.

Shinobi No Ittoki season 2 renewal status explained

As previously noted, Shinobi No Ittoki has not yet been publicly renewed for season 2 by Studio Troyca or DMM Pictures, the production teams behind the anime series.

Unfortunately, it remains quite difficult to gauge the renewal chances of the Shinobi No Ittoki anime due to the fact that the series is an original production, i.e., there is no manga or light novel run to adapt for TV.

This means that the production teams must determine whether the success of the series is worth enough for the necessary resources needed to animate a completely original second season; a factor that is often reliant on international popularity to gain funding.

As noted by AnimeGeek, “Even if the story lends itself to a sequel, it’s difficult to say whether the anime production committee (TMS Entertainment, Toy’s Factory, DMM, NetEase, Vobile) will have Shinobi no Ittoki renewed for a second season since international streaming revenue is the biggest factor influencing financial success nowadays.”

What is concerning for fans of the anime is that Shinobi No Ittoki has experienced a decidedly mixed-to-poor reception from international fans. The series is currently scoring a rather disappointing 6.08/10 on MyAnimeList; making it only the 41st-ranked anime from the 2022 Fall slate.

Similar scores can be seen across various user-based feedback websites, including just a 6.6/10 on IMDB, 59% on Anilist, and 3/5 on Anime Planet. The top reviews on both MyAnimeList and IMDB are decidedly negative as well; with scores of 5/10 and 4/10 respectively:

“I was kind excited for this anime when the first trailer dropped out, it showed some blood and good action, but the second trailer just throwed the expectation away with the “school scenario”. And now, after seeing some episodes I can say for sure, this anime is very boring and cliche.” – User review, via IMDB.

Moreover, the anime was only able to achieve a peak position of 18 on the ongoing AniTrendz fan polls.

Overall, it would be a surprise, albeit a welcomed one, if Shinobi No Ittoki did return for a second season; but if the anime is renewed for another mission, don’t expect it to premiere until at least Fall 2023.
