Pua Magasiva, who starred in “Shortland Street” and “Power Rangers: Ninja Storm,” died on Saturday at the age of 38 in Wellington, New Zealand.
Magasiva made his acting debut in the eleventh season of “Power Rangers,” where he played Red Ranger Shane Clarke. Magasiva joined the program after Disney purchased “Power Rangers” from Saban and transferred the show’s production to New Zealand to save money.
Magasiva made his debut in New Zealand in the soap opera “Shortland Street,” where he played comic-relief nurse Vinnie Kruse. Magasiva played the role from 2003 to 2006, then returned in 2011. Magasiva also had a radio career, co-hosting the Flava morning show in New Zealand. In 2018, he quit the show.
The New Zealand Herald reported that Wellington Police received reports of Magasiva’s death at an address in the city’s central business area. There were no suspicious circumstances discovered at the scene, and the coroner has yet to report the cause of death.
“Our thoughts, prayers, and condolences go out to Pua’s family, friends, and many colleagues at this terribly terrible time,” NZME said in a statement. “Pua was a much-loved member of our Flava radio team at NZME. We’ve reached out to Pua’s former coworkers and are offering assistance.”
Magasiva’s “Power Rangers” co-stars expressed their sympathies on Instagram and shared photos of themselves with him on the set of “Ninja Storm” 16 years ago.
Glenn McMillan commented, “My heart hurts for our beautiful Pua.” “Always a good time, full of enthusiasm, and uplifting to those around him… This is how I’ll always remember you. Brother, take it easy.”
