Stephanie Crane was last seen on October 11, 1993, at a bowling alley in her hometown of Challis, Idaho. Soon after, it was a shock when the 9-year-old went missing, leaving her family worried and the police looking for answers. The Investigation Discovery show “Disappeared:

“Into the Mist” tells the story of the strange chain of events and how the investigation that followed didn’t leave any stone unturned in its search for answers. Let’s look at the case in more depth to find out more, shall we?

Where Did Stephanie Crane Go?

Stephanie Crane was 9 years old and grew up in Challis, Idaho, with her three brothers and sisters. She was the oldest of four children. As a child, she loved being outside and was very close to her father. Stephanie liked hunting, fishing, and camping, but she also liked bowling and was pretty good at it. She was actually a member of a youth bowling league and was in a bowling alley when she went missing.

On October 11, 1993, Stephanie was 9 years old when her mother picked her up from school and took her to a bowling alley in Challis, Idaho. She was there for a few hours, and she and her friends practiced for the league. When practice was over, it was interesting that Stephanie didn’t wait for her mother. Instead, she started walking toward what looked like her grandparents’ house. But when the mother of one of her friends offered her a ride, she politely declined because she had to go to the high school soccer field.

So, the people at the scene say the 9-year-old was last seen walking toward Challis High School at about 6:00 pm. Since then, Stephanie was nowhere to be found, which made her family and friends worry more and more with each passing hour. When the little girl didn’t come home after dark, her mother went to the police and told them she was missing. The police jumped into action right away and put together big groups of people to search the area. They looked everywhere and even used sniffer dogs, but nothing turned up.

Authorities in the area knew they needed more people to help with the search, so they called the FBI, the Idaho State Police, and Idaho Fish and Game. With their help, the police were able to send out a boat crew to look for Stephanie in the water, while two planes searched the area for any signs of the missing 9-year-old. Surprisingly, police officers kept coming up empty-handed, and as each day went by, Stephanie’s family started to worry that the worst had happened.

Stephanie Crane is either lost or found.

Stephanie is still missing as of this date, so it’s not clear what’s going on with her. But the police say the investigation is still going on, and her family is still hoping she will come home safely. Around the time that Stephanie went missing, people saw a strange truck parked near Challis High School. By the time the police got there, the truck was gone. On the other hand, a few of her friends said that a man was watching them while they were bowling. Detectives made a rough sketch of the man based on what he told them, but this too was a dead end.

In 2000, the police got information about a drifter who lived in the area around the time Stephanie went missing. This seemed to be a break in the case. The show said that women’s screams could be heard coming from his basement and that women’s underwear was found in his room. In an interesting twist, the show said that the drifter was brought in to be questioned. Even though he failed a polygraph test, detectives were unable to link him to Stephanie’s disappearance and had to let him go.

On the other hand, a man named Keith Glenn Hescock was thought to have been involved in the disappearance of the 9-year-old girl after the police found out that he had allegedly taken another girl in June 2002. Hescock tried to get away, which led to a high-speed car chase that ended in the Bug Hole Mountains. The girl was lucky to get away with her life. Reports say that Hescock attacked the police and then killed himself with a gun. Later, the police found out that he was in Challis when Stephanie went missing, but they haven’t found any proof that he has anything to do with the case yet.

Since then, Stephanie’s case hasn’t moved forward, but there is a big reward for any information about where she is. Still, the police say that the investigation is still going on, and her family won’t give up hope that she will come home safe.
