Sydney Carter, the Texas A&M Player Development Coach, has become a topic of conversation on Twitter after she faced criticism for her outfit choice.

Following the 22nd game of the season, Carter shared pictures of her in the midst of coaching whilst wearing pink pants with a white shirt and heels.

Some people online began to question whether the outfit was “appropriate” which led to thousands of Twitter users leaping to Carter’s defence and calling out those who felt the need to comment on what she wears in the first place.

Who is Sydney Carter?

Sydney Carter is the Texas A&M Player Development Coach and Assistant Recruiting Coordinator, who has been serving plays as well as some fierce looks at games this year.

Carter’s LinkedIn page reveals that she graduated from Texas A&M University in 2012 and was a member of the 2011 NCAA National Championship Team.

A talented basketball player, Carter was drafted in the 3rd round of the 2012 WNBA Draft and went on to play for four years, as well as six years overseas.

Sydney Carter faces criticism over outfit choice

Carter posts pictures of every game day and in the pictures from “Game 22” the coach can be seen rocking a pair of pink shiny pleather pants, and a white long-sleeved top.

The pictures of Carter were posted on Facebook by a man who wrote: “Is her outfit appropriate as a basketball coach?”

People immediately jumped to her defence, with many questioning why Carter’s outfit is even a topic of discussion. One person tweeted:

“Sydney Carter is a legend at TAMU and she’s doing her thing as a coach. The last thing ppl need to be worried about is her outfit – which looks AMAZING by the way.”

Women around the nation rallied together to face the backlash Carter received, with head women’s basketball coach at University of Mississippi, Yolett McPhee-McCuin, tweeting out:

“Sis @Sydney_Rene you looked FAB in your outfit! Ppl that can’t do it, hate it! But many can and did! Keep styling! Love to see it!”

Carter retweeted the post, but is yet to comment on the situation otherwise.

Others were quick to call out for the original post, with one user writing:

“If my name is not Sydney Carter, women’s basketball coach, I don’t have any say, nor should I have any input on, what Sydney Carter, women’s basketball coach, puts on her body.”

Coach Carter ignores the hate

A fan quote tweeted pictures of Carter’s outfit and added: “Why are we not talking about this SERVE! I can’t wear pleather for longer than 46 seconds!”

Carter responded with a “thank you” followed by the blushing face emoji.

A day after the backlash took place online, Carter shared a tweet which read: “Good morning. It’s GAMEDAY!”

She also retweeted a post by sports journalist Kayla Grey which contained several snapshots of Carter rocking different outfits on game days. The post was captioned: “Tell the haters we call it RANGE.”
