HITC highlights The Continental age rating in the UK and US and offers a brief parents guide for the John Wick prequel that invites audiences back into the iconic hotel for assassins from the action movie franchise.
Developed by Greg Coolidge, Kirk Ward, and Shawn Simmons, The Continental: From the World of John Wick sees the Keanu Reeves-led franchise branch out into mini-series territory, this time centering on a young Winston Scott (played by Colin Woodell) in the 1970s establishing the titular institution. With episodes now on Peacock and Amazon Prime Video, let’s note The Continental UK and US age rating with a parents guide.
The Continental age rating and parents guide
The Continental has a TV-MA age rating in the US where the series is streaming on Peacock. Alternatively, those watching in the UK will find that it has an age rating of 16+.
For US audiences, the TV-MA rating means that the show contains content that may be unsuitable for viewers under the age of 17.
As for the reasons behind the age ratings, a parents guide warns that The Continental contains sequences including violence, nudity, sexual content, substance use, alcohol use, smoking, and foul language.
Taking that into consideration, it may not be suitable for a younger teenage demographic.
The first episode premiered on Friday, September 22nd 2023, the showrunners arguably taking a more unvarnished approach to the content in regard to mature material.
‘It’s a story of revenge’
Colin recently discussed bringing a new take on the younger Winston to life during his interview with Empire.
“It’s a story of revenge and making amends for what I think is taken from [my character], and that’s my love and my family,” he explained.
“I love Ian’s embellishment [of Winston], and how delicious everything is. To some degree we begin to get there at the end [of The Continental] and you understand what motivates him, but I didn’t get to really participate in that deliciousness.”
How many episodes in The Continental?
The Continental will be made up of just three episodes in total. As a mini-series, no season 2 has been announced.
