Thunder Bay left behind fond memories and lasting impacts on those he interacted with during his lifetime, from birth in Fort William on October 7, 1950, until his peaceful passing at St Joseph’s Hospice on Thursday, January 25, 2024. His journey through life marked by simplicity, hard work and passion was highlighted by frequent trips back home for visits with family. His passing leaves behind him an irreplaceable loss.

Who was Thunder Bay?

Thunder Bay was an individual who took great pride in the Fort William community where he grew up on October 7th, 1950 and attended local schools until graduating from Selkirk High School on April 16th, 1965. Fred’s professional experience included roles such as general laborer and forklift truck operator at various companies where his dedication and skill shined brightest; yet beyond work life was also filled with simple pleasures that brought great satisfaction for this individual.

Fred Has Exotic Interests in Art

Thunder Bay was an ardent devotee of the Toronto Blue Jays who found great joy and satisfaction from watching their every game. Not content to just follow baseball though, Fred demonstrated a remarkable talent in building model cars and trucks which became part of an impressive collection he greatly valued. Additionally, he collaborated with brother Neil to construct the Mawn Lake family camp where they spent summers boating, fishing and making lasting friendships among fellow campers – truly becoming his haven and sanctuary from his busy life.

Family: Fred’s Legacy of Love and Memories

Fred was blessed to enjoy life-giving relationships with his loving family. He is remembered by brothers Tom (from Beausejour, Manitoba – currently here) and Neil, as well as sister Marjorie who married Rob; nephews Roy with Ferial (Edmonton) and their family as well as Bill and Frank from Beausejour (Manitoba), carry forward Fred’s legacy; Liisa Salatino’s daughter Cynthia along with several aunts and cousins also remain close; this extended network gave him love, support, and many cherished moments during life’s final chapters.

Fred was honoured at his Celebration of Life service held this past November.

Although Thunder Bay has passed on, his memory still lives on in those he touched and will be celebrated during a Celebration of Life open to both family and friends at Slovak Legion Solarium Room from 2 pm-4 pm on February 5, 2024. This event provides an opportunity for those who knew Fred to gather around, share memories, and celebrate a life well lived while remembering someone whose simplicity, work ethic and devotion touched many lives during his short yet impactful life.
