I Love You, You Hate Me, a docuseries on Peacock TV, is an interesting look at how the popular TV character Barney became known all over the world in just a few short years after it first came out.

In the mid-1980s, Sheryl Leach came up with the idea for the friendly dinosaur. With Kathy Parker and Dennis DeShazer, she brought the character to TV and turned it into a show that kids all over the world love. But the road wasn’t always easy. Barney got undeserved hate, which put the lives of the people who made him and the actors who played him in danger.

David Joyner thought it was his destiny to be Barney’s costume actor, which is an interesting fact. He first showed up as the purple dinosaur in a direct-to-video episode of “Barney and the Backyard Gang” in 1991. Then, he wore Barney’s clothes on the TV show “Barney & Friends,” which became famous all over the world. David’s role as Barney brought him a lot of fame and put him in the spotlight, but he still credits the role with making him the successful person he is today. Fans have also been asking a lot of questions about where he is now, since he was in the Peacock series. Well, don’t worry, because we have answers for you!

The Barney Journey of David Joyner

David is from Decatur, Illinois, and readers will be surprised to learn that he worked as a software analyst at Texas Instruments before deciding to try out for the role of Barney’s costume actor. David said that it was clear from a number of things, including a dream he had the night before his Barney audition, that he would go far in life if he did well at the audition.

David did just that, and even though he was chosen as a backup costume actor in 1991, he quickly became the main one when the actor who played Barney at the time said he couldn’t stay in the suit for long. David played Barney in “Barney and the Backyard Gang,” but he also played the friendly dinosaur in the popular TV show “Barney & Friends” and in a few spin-off movies, such as “Barney’s Magical Musical Adventure,” “Barney in Outer Space,” and “Barney’s Great Adventure.”

David Joyner stepped into the spotlight when “Barney & Friends” became a worldwide hit and got praise from people all over the world. The fame he garnered as Barney’s costume actor helped him become a standout name in the industry and paved the way for a successful acting career. David said that he and the rest of the cast and crew got along well and had a great time on set. However, the actor did say that it was hard to film as Barney because the temperature inside the suit would get very high.

Still, David’s incredibly high energy and uniqueness in essaying Barney endeared the character to children. It’s interesting that he was still involved with Barney when the franchise started getting a lot of hate for no reason, but it’s not clear if he was getting death threats. Nevertheless, like most, the hostile environment affected the actor, and he eventually left the franchise in 2001.

What is David Joyner doing now?

David Joyner left the Barney franchise in 2001, but he kept making cameos until 2005, according to reports. At the same time, he looked to expand his acting repertoire and took on several roles in popular shows like ‘General Hospital,’ ‘That’s So Raven,’ ‘ER,’ ‘House,’ and ’24.’ David made the TV show “Hip Hop Harry” in 2006, in which he played the part of Chef Rob and wore the costume of the main character.

Since then, the Barney actor has taken on several roles in movies and TV shows, with a notable few productions being ‘Scooby-Doo! Curse of the Lake Monster’ and ‘According to Him and Her.’ He also talked about his time as Barney in the TV show Peacock, which was a documentary. David lives in Los Angeles, California, and works as a spiritual healer in his tantric massage business, which he started in 2004. This is good news for the readers.

David said he started learning tantra when he was 20, and he said it helped him on the set of “Barney and Friends.” He said, “Before I put on the [Barney] costume, I would pray and ask God to let his loving divine spirit flow through me through the costume and let that draw the kids. They would always be drawn to that energy.” David is now a tantric healer, and he charges around $300 for three-hour sessions in which he tries to unlock the energy of his female clients, who he calls “goddesses.”

Joyner once said that the night before he tried out for the part of Barney, he had a dream. Barney passed out in the dream, and Joyner had to give him mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. And on the day of the audition, Joyner stopped at a red light and saw a Southwest Airlines ad above him. “Breathe life into your vacation,” it said. Joyner decided, “I’m going on vacation if I can give this character life.”

Joyner first tried out for the part in 1991, replacing David Voss, who had played Barney’s original costume actor. Joyner was hired as a back-up performer at first, but she took over the role when the actress who was supposed to play the part had trouble staying in costume for long periods of time.
