Initial reports indicate that a tractor-trailer and what seems to be a party bus were involved in a collision on Interstate 64 in York County early on Friday morning. The collision resulted in the deaths of three individuals and injuries to almost twenty others.

When the bus merged into the path of the tractor-trailer, the accident occurred on westbound Interstate 64 at mile marker 241 at around 1:48 a.m., according to the police statement released on Friday afternoon.

After then, the tractor-trailer went off the left side of the freeway, continued into the median, and collided with an embankment.

“The driver and twenty passengers aboard the bus were all transported to area hospitals for treatment of minor to non-life-threatening injuries,” the Virginia State Police said in a press release.

The condition of the driver and passengers was not life-threatening.” Three more people on the bus were found dead at the scene of the accident.

In order to conduct an autopsy on those passengers, who have since been identified as Xavier Raquan Evans, age 25, Johntae Kaalib Russel, age 21, and Montia Bouie, age 19, they were transferred to the Medical Examiner’s Office.

The tractor-trailer driver was transported to a hospital with injuries that were not considered to be life-threatening.

A number of hours were spent by investigators at the location, during which they gathered evidence and cleared away debris.

According to reports, relatives have stated that the three fatalities were riding on a bus with their pals as they returned from a trip to Richmond to celebrate the musical dreams of a young guy.

Over the course of several hours, the collision caused traffic to be disrupted throughout this section of Interstate 64. The eastbound lanes of Interstate 64 in this region were reopened to traffic at approximately 11:30 a.m.

As of right now, charges are being considered in conjunction with the Commonwealth’s Attorney for York County. Other information regarding this matter, such as who will be charged and the offenses for which they will be held accountable, has not been disclosed.
